No, it's not to do with recovery from injury between games. It's to do with conditioning for overall stamina. If you have a faster 'recovery' time between sprints, it means you have to spend less time resting before you can run at top speed again. It's an issue of aerobic performance, unaffected...
This means that when he runs he gets tired, but training at simulated altitude means he gets his energy back quicker and is soon able to run at full pace again. This is conditioning for in-match fitness, recovery from being tired, not to do with recovery from injury.
