Return to play for lateral ankle ligament injuries - grade 1 (stretch)= ~ 10-14days - grade 2 (partial tear) = ~ 2- 4 weeks - grade 3 (complete tear) = > 6wks These are ball park figures. The lateral ankle ligament is actually a ‘complex’ of 3 ligaments (ATFL - most common injury, CFL - 2nd...

Surgeon Comments on Harry Kane Injury ...

Don’t claim to be an ‘expert’ but being an A&E Registrar (with a degree in Sports Medicine) the experts can speculate all they want, but without examining him & seeing his scan results, it’s impossible to guess time frames on his return to play... The fact he didn’t go off on a stretcher isn’t...

Issue being that high grade hamstring tears (whether repaired surgically or managed conservatively) invariably lead to recurrent hamstring injuries further down the track... A bit like VDV...

    Ross Barkley

If it GENUINELY is a Grade 3 tear, 6 weeks is the absolute minimum I'd expect for a return to play. Players with a history of hamstring injuries, like previous ACL reconstructions make me apprehensive...

    Injury Updates

Is difficult to say, but to perform what sounds like an arthroscopic repair (key hole surgery) in his hip it must've been something quite serious & I imagine the prolonged lay off would point towards a 'soft tissue' issue rather than a fracture. So this is purely guess work... - Labral tears...

    Injury Updates

Been posting in the Juve match day thread about Trippers ankle injury... As an Emergency Dept doctor with another degree in Sports Medicine, I'd be happy to answer any questions people might have about players injuries or sports medicine issues in general... COYS

I have seen them on sale & advertised on our equivalent of QVC, but I have never seen them used in practice anywhere The evidence for their use in anything other than lymphoedema is limited as far as I'm aware, & even then the trials are small in numbers. If we are talking about ankle...

Ankle sprains are graded/classified (I-III) by the severity of the underlying ligament damage (ranging from nil injury to full rupture), degree of swelling/bruising & pain on weight bearing... Generally ankle sprains will be treated with conservative management (protective...

Torn/rupture in terms of an ACL in professional athlete makes little difference as ultimately the treatment is an arthroscopic reconstruction in which they use an autograft (i.e. coming from your own body) to replace the damaged ligaments. Generally they take the autografts from one of your...

Neil Ashton - Daily Fail - Villas-Boas faces a fight to keep his job as Spurs boss

I've never read Ashton write a positive piece about AVB I'm sure his vendeta towards him came about after AVB owned him in a press conference last year in front of all his media buddies?! Can anyone recall what that was in regards to?! (& if it was actually Ashton?)

Appalling that Lloris was allowed to stay on

Again...CT scans do NOT make a diagnosis of a concussion! It is purely a clinical diagnosis based on serial examinations... The fact he didn't play yesterday, as he failed the impact test suggests that he is in fact suffering from concussion afterall. I think this who saga has been poorly...

Appalling that Lloris was allowed to stay on

Again...scans do not prove/disprove the presence of a concussion... There appears to be some back tracking here from AVB in these comments, because I'm sure initially he stated it was his decision to keep Lloris on, although the Medics advised him to be withdrawn These are the guidelines which...

Appalling that Lloris was allowed to stay on

Yeah...that was me, guilty as charged...i am currently training in A&E medicine, as well as having experience in pitch side sports trauma (rugby, AFL & boxing). As discussed earlier, there are a lot of misconceptions, both on here & in the media, regarding the manage of head injuries in sport...

Appalling that Lloris was allowed to stay on

There seems to be a bit of confusion, both on here & in the media (no surprises there) with the correct use of the word 'concussion' Concussion is NOT a radiological diagnosis...it is a clinical one (ie it can be made at the bedside) A CT head can be completely normal in someone suffering from...

Appalling that Lloris was allowed to stay on

As a result of an underestimated & therefore poorly managed initial injury! (not by myself I'd like to add...!!) The force generated in some of these impacts in sport is hugely underestimated, particularly now sportsmen are designed to be heavily built, quick, units...it is quite frankly scary...
