In summer and only if he stays

HARRY REDKNAPP will be handed a £60million war chest to boost his Tottenham squad in the summer – if he doesn’t take the England job.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will have fresh funds available for new players thanks to Redknapp’s side mounting an assault on the Premier League title.

Tottenham can bank on lucrative sponsorship deals after challenging for their first top-flight crown since 1961.

And the club’s new global appeal means Levy also finds himself in a strong position to negotiate with potential naming-rights partners for their proposed state-of-the-art stadium. They need £450m to build the Northumberland Project Development – a 55,000-seater ground next to their current home.

Levy is said to have held tentative talks with six potential naming-rights partners but links to Qatar Airways, which is part-owned by the government of Qatar, are wide of the mark. An N17 source said: “Levy told the AGM last month that Spurs were now committed to building the new stadium.

“It’s not hard to imagine anything up to £60m being made available and with the canny way in which Harry does business, that’s big money.

“But, of course, the big question is, will he still be at Tottenham?”

Redknapp is firm favourite to take over as Three Lions boss from Fabio Capello after this summer’s European Championships in Poland and Ukraine.

What if we don't get champions league?

I think this story may be made up. Just a hunch...

These "war chest" stories are complete nonsense. The amount we spend will be completely based on who we can attract.

Daily Star. If they said "good morning" to me I would look out of the window to make sure it was!

I don't think there's anything in this story but...

Is there any point having a £60m transfer fund?

£60m implies that we would be signing star players. Would thay come to us on £70,000 per week? I don't think they would.

Do all clubs have these War Chests?
Where do they come from...the Antiques Roadshow?
Will they lead Mr Redknapp into a strong-room lit by flickering torches, pull off a sheet and reveal a massive chest, complete with buckles and metal bands, open the padlocks, and reveal a heap of pirate gold?
Couldn't they just give him a cheque, or even something more modern

There is no way Levy would let on as to how much money we have to spend as we would get majorly bumped in the transfer market.

Why would we be even thinking about what to spend in the summer now when we are currently in the middle of a transfer window, one which could dictate our ability to challenge for the league this season or even drop down out of the CL if we don't freshen things up and have a similar slide to last season post Jan

£60m suggests that we are selling one of our star players, who knows but perhaps £40m of it will come from the sale of Modric?
