the only player id take from newcastle would be viduka for 2million on a low wage as 4th or 5th choice

He's available for free with his contract running out.
Personally doubt he'd be a good option though, even if he fit and in form is one of the best in the league - those days are long gone ..

I reckon buying Gutierrez would be a good option?

Argentinian international player, amazing work rate and quite a technical player. Could play him out on the left and act as cover for Lennon next season on the right (assuming Bentley is sold.. which is likely).

Also.. what about Diego from Werder Bremen? They finished mid table, lost in the final.. not really going anywhere.. might like a move to the prem?

Jonas could be a cheap and versatile replacement for Bentley.

Diego is going to Juventus.

People are already going transfer window crazy!

I would say we don't want any of Newcastle's cast-offs. Perhaps Guitierrez (if cheap) but no-one else. Owen and Viduka are terribly injury prone and would want big wages. Martins can't hit a barn door and Defoe is better.

I'm glad Downing has got injured because hopefully we now won't buy him. Tuncay is the only player from Boro who I like but we must remember he was their top scorer with FOUR goals. I'm not sure how he'd fit in.

Of the lower teams, Pompey will have to sell but Johnson I can see going to a big four team (prob. Liverpool). Unfortunately I can see Harry wanting to reunite Defoe with Crouchie :eek:mg: I don't want anyone from Sunderland and, fortunately, can't see Jones coming to us with his new contract.

Wigan will lose Valencia and (probably Figueroa) to bigger sides. But not us.

I have no idea about who Harry wants in but I'm sure there'll be some wheeling and dealing.

Probable departures:

Bent or Pav (prob Bent) - £10m (to one of the promoted teams or Everton)
Bentley - £10m (Man City)
Jenas - £10m (Inter Milan) - possibly in a swap involving Muntari
Huddlestone - £5m (Fulham)
Rocha - released
KPB - £2m - (somewhere in Germany)
Taarabt has also said he's off

Note: I don't want JJ or Hudd to leave but I think they will. I certainly don't think Bale will leave. I think Dos Santos might leave but I'm not sure.

Probable arrivals:

Target man striker (prob Crouch)
LW (not Downing, possibly Muntari)
CM (Scott Brown?)

I think we'll see Obika, Parrett and Bostock more involved next season.

i'll cry if we don't sell jenas and replace him with real quality.

Can't believe there are still people who want JJ to be sold. I think he may go to Inter, but I don't want him to go. As DC Boy has said many times he has been our best Midfielder ever since Carrick laeft.

Jonas - quick, skillful, looks lively and intelligent...

There is one problem though......he is utter shite.

We're not going to get three world class players for £10M each

Centre Forward better than Keane and Defoe for £10M...mmmm

Think some of you are under-selling our assets.

None of them have to be sold and however much we may or may not have in the kitty we are not crippled, ergo don't have to sell. We're in the box-seat and we all know how Levy loves to drive a bargain.

For example, KPB would already be at Dortmund if they could afford 5-6m. That doesn't mean we'd suddenly take 2-3m. He'll not go for a penny under 4-4.5m and rightly so.

Also, while it makes threads like this difficult, the wages are just as critical to what money we may or may not have to spend. We all know that the Gooners actually spend far more on players than us when you take into account wages, so let's do the logical here and take into account the fact that if we release Rocha and Gilberto for free, that's more than 3 million quid we've saved. Per year for the remainder of their contract.

The long and short of it is that financially, 30m really isn't going to hurt us too much. We will sell players and that will definitely help cash flow and balancing the books but that isn't the main reason they're being sold. The main reason is to keep an optimum squad in terms of both quality and size.

I'm sure the press will link CL clubs with Modric & Lennon -i really want to keep them.
But if they do become unsettled it will be another case of us spending loads and virtually balancing the books.

KPB's not a great example to use. You can guarantee no one's going to pay 4m for him, so unless realism breaks out, we're stuck with a 5.4m player who isn't going to be playing for us. The bargain for Levy would be getting 3m for him.

Players will be sold or released because we've got a squad that comprises purchases from at least 3 different regimes, and as result it's top heavy with players that were bought for a purpose and now don't have one.

Harry will want players and he won't get the money for them without selling players he doesn't want. He might even have to sell players he would like to keep to acquire players he thinks he needs even more.

The only Newcastle player I'd consider taking is Steven Taylor, but he's very much like Dawson a season or two ago, unquestionable commitment, but still needs moulding and needs to play alongside someone like Woodgate to steady them and get the best out of him... Which isn't what we need...

It's all well and good saying who we should sell to raise the £30 million, but none of us know exactly who Harry is targeting with that money.
If he is after a CM, a LB and a CD it's a pretty stupid idea to sell both Bent and Pav!

Why don't we all just wait and see. Having said that can see Bentley, Hudd, one of our right backs at least, Zokora and one of Bent/Pav leaving. That goes alongise the obvious candidates Boateng, Gilberto (thing his contract is out anyway), Rocha...

Just another quiet summer at the lane again.
