£40 million offer for Modric

Is there any evidence that Chelsea actually offered £40 million for
Luka Modric.
The only reference I can find is from Harry and he wasn't sure.
Just an attempt from the Spurs Publicity Dept to brush up Daniel Levy's macho credentials perhaps?

Its irrelevant now dan the man stuck by his decision so modders now has to in reality settle down and get on with playing. The stance levy took can only be good for himself and the club as roll on january the media and clubs with more money will have a lot more respect when Tottenham Hotspurs say said player is not for sale move on.

It was made clear that Modric wasn't for sale. At any price. I'm pleased that Levy didn't weaken his resolve.

Now let's see how Modric performs. If he sulks and puts in little effort, he will be one of the most unpopular players ever to wear a Spurs shirt and I hope he's professional enough and has enough pride not to under-perform.

Ian Dennis, 5live's chief football reporter Tweeted that the "£40m Chelsea" bid was in fact a £30m + Alex. IMO that's more impressive than a £40m bid.

In the words of Daniel Levy "this isn't about money, we don't sell our best players"

We should just put in a bid out right for Alex in January.

He's clearly not wanted by Chelsea.

If he was offered as part exchange for Modric.

Then it's clear the player would have no problems playing for us.

A player of his calibre would improve us no doubt. A much better defender than Cahill.

That said can you imagine if we bagged both in the next transfer window.

Wishful thinking me thinks.

I've accepted he's off closely followed out the door by Bale and maybe VDV. We failed to capitalise on our success in the Champions league and now it's time for damage limitation. Might as well have an overhaul of the team and backroom staff while we're at it.

Levy was never going to sell him this window but what have we learned from it? We have learned that when Chelsea come back next year their starting offer has got to be £40million plus.:)

Chelsea will be struggling with that team by January. AVB under pressure. African nations cup takes half the squad away. A 50 million bid will come in. :)

So the £40 million offer was never actually made.
It was £30+ a player who Harry or Levy
might not have wanted and who may or not be worth £10 million.

Just getting the facts straight.

A straight £40 million might have done it.

We learned the hard way with Berbatov that having the money in the bank is no substitute for having a world class player in the squad. These types of player tend to only find their way to Spurs every few years and all the money in the world may not tempt a ready-made replacement to us. Just look at the way Diarra would rather spend his time on the Real Madrid bench then come to Tottenham.

If they bid 30m and alex plus drogba we may have caved in

I don't reckon so mate, not on the last day and not when Harry just said right at the start of the day that he was one million percent sure (or whatever he said) that Modric wasn't going, it would have caused an outrage.

If that was their very first offer I think we may have considered it a lot more, even then though I'm not sure if Levy would have.

if chavs had offered us Drogba in the final hours of the TF window i'd be very worried about just how much lasting damaage that knockout has done.
