To clear up the situation, the agreement between Spurs and Atalanta is a season-long loan deal with an option - not obligation - to buy for £42.5million.

Furthermore, all parties expect the deal to go through next summer hence why a five-year contract has already been agreed between Romero and the north London outfit.

Loaning two players from Atlanta, both with options, is a bit weird - sounds like the Gedson/Vinicius weirdness again

That's true, but imagine the position we'd be in if we'd paid those option prices upfront! Seems a smart way to do business, kinda like a try before you buy

Atalanta only bought Romero from Juventus yesterday, for €16m, and immediately loaned him to Spurs. I'd guess that delaying the permanent transfer until 2022 might reduce the impact of any previous sell-on deal between Genoa and Juventus?

We can all see exactly what's happening, Tottenham do things frustratingly differently. We could of easily just of bought two players outright from Atlanta instead of this complex loan to buy without obligation. It is I suppose a great get out if anyone fails to deliver.

Not sure - was justing wondering whats 'in it' for atlanta, unless Mendes is involved to grease the wheels somehow?

I thought it was something to do with a player not being allowed to be sold twice in one window under Italian rules. Atalanta had to buy him from Juve so we had to loan him from them. We've given him a 6 year contract so this is to all intents and purposes a permanent deal which will be finalised as soon as legally possible. At least, that's how I understood it.

Or, we're spreading the cash about while we get a season reaping the benefits of our shiny new stadium, thus getting more to spend this window.
