So much for Harry saying that- if we can't make a player of this kid, then we are not doing our job properly!

Rumour has it that his off-field activities make Lennon's well-known partying proclivities pale into insignificance. This may or may not be true, but it could be that shunting him back to Germany isn't all to do with his footballing ability (or lack of).

And before anyone else leaps on Comolli, remember that Monchi at Sevilla was in for him, and that Bill Oddie and a couple of other members had been pretty impressed with his performances for Hertha. So, no reason to have a pop at Damo on that score. Where I will have a pop is that, despite his knowledge of French football and the fact that we'd already signed BAE from Lens, he apparently overlooked Seydou Keita, who got snapped up by Sevilla after we outbid them for Bong. Am I missing something here?

Well what I will say to that is.... MOnchi at Sevilla obviously thought he could do a job for Sevilla in La Liga (maybe he was right) it could be argued that Boateng would be more suited to a league like the Spanish and a team like Sevilla (who knows) what I am saying is Monchi's judgement of him may not directly suggest it was the same type of judgement Comolli made as Comolli would (or should) have been judging him according to his ability to play in our league and benefit our team (if that makes sense?!!)

Also Monchi no doubt thought he would be worth a punt at a price like £2-3m for example, where as Comolli thought it would be a good idea to thrump Monchi's valuation and pay way over the odds.

What I am trying to say is the fact Monchi thought him good enough for Sevilla is not evidence enough *in my opinion* to support DC's decision to bring him to our club as there are several vital varibles that differ.

Excuse me if that sounds incoherent, I'm very tired

I think that's roughly what I meant. (Yes, I'm tired too.) What I don't understand is why we didn't go for Keita in the first place.

Monchi offered 3.5 million euros (at the time about £2.8 million) which was rejected. We paid £5.4 million.

I can only assume it's because Comolli and whoever else was involved in scouting and bringing players to our club were not as good at the job as the people in place at Sevilla.

So we paid over the odds for a substandard player whilst they went on to pay a pittance for someone who turned out to be rather special.

T o paraphrase Harry Reknapp: he was young player of the year in germany, he's big, strong, athletic, and technically gifted. And there was competition for his signature. If we can't amke a player of him...we ashould be...blah blah blah.

To be fair he was awful when he played, but he was given little chance, and always in a struggling team. IMHO this transfer is specifially bewcause, after having said this 'Arry made it clear to the boy that he would only be a strictly bit-part player for the foreseeable, whereas the lad wants first team action now (and withn his reputation before coming to the lane and at this stage in his career I can understand that). I suspect 'Arry would have preferred to keep him.

:hello:

The reason he was bought was the same as why kaboul was bought. He was young player of the year in his country. How they both acheived this ill never know

Something of a misconception, as it's assumed to correspond to the awards we have here, which players like Ronaldo have won in the past, the young player criteria including all those under 23. There are actually 3 awards (U17/U18/U19), of which Boateng won the U19, so quite a narrow group.

He'll probably be brilliant now, and we'll be cursing letting him go!

(And doesn't he have really thin legs for a footballer?) lol

He is skinny in general, wheter or not that makes him weak is another matter

I have not seen enough of him to know, he seems to be up for a physical challange but mostly he is just sloppy and reckless with his commitment
