I think that without the pace he possesses, he might not have made it in the PL. Are you of the opinion that there's no such thing as a moderately talented/poor PL player?

I think the kind of stuff you're talking about here is very New Age (or something). My opinion is that he has very limited football intelligence. I don't think he's able to think one or two steps ahead.

I think the problem with some of the players we have is that they don't hate losing as much as they should.

Not new age JH it's a lot older than wee little footballers who move to fast for their brain - it's not a new thing although your average footballer won't have a scooby what's going on with it...it's used in the NHS now and has scientific backing....I think Lennon is better than moderate or poor...some of his runs tonight were very intelligent even if some of his delivery wasn't. His run for the goal made thebrilliant pass for Mod possible and he composed himself enough to pick out Ade. Class goal all round...

Agree re the mentality about losing...

Just for laughs, steve, what's your verdict on Walcott?

He's a good player to have if you wanna play on the break and have acres of space to run into. But in and around the box with defences in position and little space he's got no trick (Lennon has) and just seems to shift and bang it. He's a worse technician than Lennon as well I think and also lacks confidence. Another with mentality problems.

Let's not gloss over the issue of end product, steve. Four minutes in and he's taken too many touches and failed to spot Rafa in the box (but won a corner), conceded possession with one of his silly flicks and crossed the ball into a good area, albeit an area where there is no Spurs player.

Where do you see him plying his trade when he's 34?

Yeah well done BC and JH judging Lennon on 4 minutes of the game!

Did you watch the rest of it?

Gloss over? What about the rest of the game? You're emphasising what you want jH to back up your argument. I've never disagreed over his end product or his lack of consistency, I just disagree over the reasons why...his early movement was good his end product poor....his movement for the 3rd was superb, explosive and intelligent and his composure was good to pick out Ade. All the inconsistencies in one game. That's Lennon frustratingly.

34?? My crystal ball tells me he'll be in panto as one of the seven dwarves in Snow White....Dopey maybe??

34? When his legs have gone.

I'm watching it now. 28 minutes in. On my way to bed shortly. I've seen a number of examples of great movement from Lennon in those 28 minutes but not the end product. Lennon tantalises. He's Dick Turpin... with a water pistol.

I am not basing my opinion on him on one game, steve. Do you think he is as talented as Bale?

So he DOES have intelligent movement then but his end product is hit and miss? Aren't we agreeing now?

No Bale has better technique, greater composure, better in the air and is a tremendous athlete in every sense. Intelligence wise there's not much in it...

34 and he may be in the MLS like Henry....

I've watched the first half. I saw plenty of very good movement from him, steve. However, I have often been frustrated with his movement and even Harry has spoken about his need to add more to his game by finding those little pockets of space.

The big issue for me is that his decision making/ end product is substandard.

This is from September 2010, steve. Lots there to keep the two of us satisfied, I would say. (y)

Redknapp said: “Aaron’s not playing like he did last year, that’s for sure.
“Before he got the injury he was absolutely flying.
“He has to learn to come off the line, pop up in little holes like Luka Modric does or like Rafael Van der Vaart can do and maybe add that to his game. He doesn’t always have to stay wide.
“One game can turn it for him but he needs a bit of confidence.”
On that famous photo, Redknapp added: “Someone told me there was a picture of him with a big cigar in his mouth, although I never saw it. If he smokes too many of those he’ll lose his speed and then he’ll be in trouble.
“We have to work with him and get him going again. That’s what we get paid to do as coaches, to work with him, to find the key to getting him on the ball more.
“When someone has that talent you have to find a way to work with him, get his confidence back and get him playing well.”
Redknapp pointed to the example of Gareth Bale, whose Spurs’ career looked over after 24 Prem appearances without a single win.
The Welshman has kept plugging away and become one of Spurs’ most impressive players after a flying start to this season.
Redknapp added: “We worked hard with Gareth on his game and look at him now. Too many times, people sign players and say: ‘He can’t do this and he can’t do that’.
“Well, clever coaches will get the best out of them and improve them. If something’s not happening, help them with their problem. You can’t just write them off.”

Lennon when he's 'Ghaly' you'd have in your side every week. When he's not he's pretty ordinary. For a few weeks now i've been on his case because he gives the ball away in a silly manner too often. You know, he drfits infield and plays a square pass to an imaginary team mate who's actually one of the opposition.

Most players do it (give away possession far too easily) from time to time but perhaps because i'm looking out for it from Lennon it stands out more. But all of that is just IMO, i'm probably being too harsh. But what did stand out for me last night was that in the second half, we couldn't keep the ball. We couldn't string two passes together and then we hit them with three quick goals and we suddenly looked like Brazil. We knocked the ball about and kept it in an assured manner and i'm left wondering why we can't (or don't) do that when the pressure is on. When its tight.

If only as a team, we stopped giving the ball away so easily we'd (obviously) be so much better for it. I'm not sure what you'd call it. Mentality? Concentration? Whatever it is, i'd like us to be a bit more mean with the ball and actually make the opposition earn it rather than gifting it to them.

You do demand the best A&C, only 8 other teams in Europe's top 5 leagues have a better passing accuracy than us!

I do agree though that when Bolton had us under the cosh we got very sloppy and kept gifting them the ball which was poor, they'd rattled our cage and luckily Mod/Bale/VDV combined with some quality on the break to regain the lead. It's why I have banged the Sandro/Parker drum all season because I think they give us that element of control that we can lose easily (or not even have at all) with just the one in there. We get pulled around and Parker (or Sandro) goes chasing around to put out fires and we lose all shape and composure.

I didn't know that :D Just goes to show. But you couldn't point at that stat and say it means we don't (at times) give the ball away too cheaply and too often. Last night at 1-1 you wouldn't have believed that stat but at 4-1 you would. Its when the pressure is on that we seem to falter.

When we were getting pinned back for those first 15 mins of the second half, the only way I could really sum it up was we lacked a leader. Its in those sort of spells you could do with somebody offering some composure and correct decision making.

We are too easy to rattle, and when we lose it we lose it big time. Its been a big weakness for way too long.
