I have no doubt that you believe what you say to the point of non stop repetition, but in the real world of football it's pretty much a load of hot air!

They've got some sort of comparison engine on their database which produces those strengths and weaknesses, the problem is that when you're talking about low frequency events you'll get wild fluctuations week to week in the ratings. Probably they'd be better disabling stuff which happens below a certain frequency because it's meaningless and throws the rest of it into disrepute. On the other hand they probably don't give a shit because they're providing an interesting website for fans, not 100% reliable data-service for stattos.

Ok, ok, well I just heard Rodgers refer to their (Barca's) usual 4-3-3 in a interview he did this morning (http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-n...sive-rodgers-dismisses-tottenham-link-168766?) so he's another who thinks their favoured formation is 4-3-3, but all that aside, for arguments sake let's agree you're correct and Barcelona usually don't play 4-3-3, it remains a peripheral issue to my main point, which you have yet to address.

Apologies Sloth fro late reply.

Purely out of interest could you put this outfield 10 down in a paper formation:

Alves
Pique
Puyol
Mascherano
Xavi
Iniesta
Busquets
Fabregas
Cuenca
Messi

I could give you the McLeish option - will that do?

Legend, we're getting side-tracked here, I understand your point about paper formations, I've responded that when we use formations to describe an idea we do so because they are useful as a short-hand tool for encompassing a number of things which might change depending on context. As long as we all understand that they are this tool, and they don't mean a single thing, but that we might have to interpret a little bit what the other person's getting at, we're all ok. Of course we can chose to be destructive, and focus on the periphery, or pretend we don't understand the rules of the conversation at all, we can chose to take the opposite interpretation of what we think is probably meant, and any discussion will degenerate into meaningless point-scoring.

In this particular case, I have, for argument's sake, accepted your version of the way Barca play, because I think it's essentially irrelevant to the wider point I was trying to make. Engage with that (or don't), it's up to you, but I would have thought this was a perfect chance to show how simplistic my grasp of the game is?

I wasn't intending either of those things!

I get your point totally and will refrain from mentioning it to you again as I now realise that essentially we are on the same page on this!

Fair enough mate, cheers for that. Now I feel a bit embarrassed about the post I made in response to you in the other thread

Oh well...

Is that this one?

Alves Fabregas Iniesta Xavi Puyol Pique Busquets Mascherano Cuenca

Heskey

Messi was dropped for Heskey at the last minute due to being too exciting.

Heskey would have his defensive duties emphasised and be expected to drop back and be the midfield as well.
