I'm going to stick my neck out and say it was the 06/07 season. If you could sum up what Tottenham really means to me then that season does it perfectly. We had Martin Jol when he could do no wrong and I remember travelling to Braga and it was literally one big Spurs love in. Yeah trophywise we came up short, we through away leads, we generally flattered to decieve but to be honest I wouldn't have it any other way!

O man, where's the love for 06/07?

:) 18 - it was a good year wasn't it - I thought it was better than 05/06 cos we played so much good football - we also set an all-time British record of 8 consecutive euro victories - not not even the mighty pool or utd, celtic or rangers have matched that

when you consider it was from an unseeded team and then the team ranked bottom of the group it was a magnificent acheivement with the away wins at Leverkusen and Beskitas absolute stand outs

and as we know we had Seville beat till that disgrace of a penalty

It was my favourite by a country mile DC. When we hit THAT run of form (which coincided with JJ's welcome return from injury!) we were brilliant, as I said before, it was like one big Tottenham love in.

But as I've been posting recently, It was all about identifying with the players/staff and what we were trying to achieve, something which I don't quite get at the moment. There were some moments that season that will live with me forever.

Maybe 'best' wasn't quite the right adjective. The CC win distorted last season (for which I voted, solely on that). We did play some quality football, particularly against the 'Big Four'—except for that poor last game against the Scousers—and Pompey, but we also played some real dreck under both Jol and Ramos.

2006-2007 was a bit of a reprise of 1986-1987, another close but no cigar season, except for that sensational run-in. But we were awesome in Europe, and who knows how we'd have done in the domestic cups if we hadn't lost Berbatov at crucial points? Or if Mido's shot at the Death Star had been 18 inches to the left?

Not just JJ, though, Shelfside. We had Keane (whose scoring form was as sensational as it had been pants before his injury) and King back too. Apart from losing Lee and the subsequent buggering about with Chimbonda, Big Tone, Rocha and Ifil, we had our best XI at the time available, and it showed.

I finally voted for 2005/06.
It allowed us dream again which is always the pre-curser to all our crushing disappointments and woeful underachievements.:violin:

After the initial puke of support for the CC winning year and the patronising "we came a long way in a short space of time" bleatings for the (42 game long) 05/06 season, the purists and the thoughtful are slowly getting vocal about the 06/07 season.

Bump - this poll closes on Wednesday - so last chance to vote if you haven't - though it's pretty clear 05/06 is the runaway winner

This perhaps gives an indication as to Jol's undoubted popularity in many quarters - It was a 'breakthrough season' in the Prem era, our first top 6 finish and we certainly had a team that (mostly) played as a team -

From the day we won at Fratton Park in the rain we showed that indeed 'Tottenham were back'

However many, including me, remember the 'pain' aspect of that season so vividly, that although the 'gain' was clearly evident - it was another 'oh so good, oh so close, but it hurts even more because of that' season - of which Spurs have had plenty over the years

06/07 had a similar 'oh so close' feel in ways - but the football was better (for me and many others at least) - and the pain wasn't as as intense, and for me the overall joy was greater.

07/08 was one of those 'not close at all, yet we've won a trophy' seasons - of which we've had a few too as well over the years :)

shades of 91 & 81 - didn't do a lot in anything but the cup we won - but the sweetness of success means oh so much in the Spurs litany - and the winning was so heroic - just like 91 and 81 - it wasn't all about the final either - the semis in all those three years were epic in their own ways too - all involved AFC - two supreme victories against them and a 3-0 stormer v Wolves :):):) at their ground, with an army of Spurs in the North Bank (me included :) .... what larks indeed

Each season had its charms. If people voted for last season, I think they are viewing it through a different prism. Yes there were moments of joy but there moments of equally extreme sadness, anger and frustration both before and after Jol was sacked. That we beat Arsenal and Chelsea made me jubilant and brought me to tears but so did the dismissal of Jol. Last season was a typical Tottenham season and as happy as I was when we won the cup, the disappointments and general lacklustre performances (not to mention back stabbing) were much more commonplace than beating the big four.

I was going to vote for 05/06 for the reasons Joey stated. I was living in Spain at the time, but got back for a few games, and going to watch games at the pub with supreme confidence that we would win made it, for me, an unfamiliar experience as did seeing us in fourth for much of the season(I started supporting Spurs in 1990 circa). We were tight at the back, had few injuries and genuinely challenged the elite.

But for me 06/07 was more of a challenging season because of many more games, injuries, higher expecations and a better standard of football in the premiership. And we played far better football. We were not dull in 05/06, there were games in which we played very good football (for example both games against Arsenal and away to Everton near the end), but for most of it we were unspectacular yet effective. In the following season, partly because of Berbatov, we played some fantastic football and still managed to reach fifth place. It is inaccurate to say Jol was unable to turn the ship around at the beginning of last season because he did it midway through that season.

I really think that fans who see last season as better than both previous seasons need to get a reality check. Yes the day of the final was fun and the night of the semi memorable, but it is the whole season that counts and for 75% of it we were average at best. That is not what I want my Spurs team to be this season. I would gladly give up a cup win for a consistent season that we experienced in 06 or an exciting and palplably successful season we had in 07.

2007 for the European side of things, I had a great time around the continent watching and meeting the players.

2008 for whuppin' some Goon and Blueski ass! And of course the silverware....

One expects 2009 to be better........so why do I have that sinking feeling?

And why did I dream that the Barcodes put us out of the Carling Cup beating us 2-1... :-|

It's a tough one. 05/06 was great as it was the first good season we'd had in over a decade. We had great determination and held onto 4th almost all season. We had some great characters in the squad and was the season which showed everyone what we could potentially achieve.

06/07 the UEFA Cup run was fantastic and the quality of footbal played was excellent. But in the league we were very disappointing until the final third, it was a season of catch up.

07/08 was disappointing because of the the hype but many teams (Everton the most recent besides us) have a down season after a year of over achieving and at least when we had a poorer season we came out with some silverware.

I voted 05/06 as we were consistently excellent that season. I love watching Spurs when we add steel to our quality and that season personified it.
