10 Better Players

In a recent discussion regarding Dawson SS57 stated that he could think of a lot worse that he has seen playing center half for us an he is undoubtedly correct we have had some real horrors in that position.However it lead me to think how many better I have seen in that position and off the top of my head I would say:- Norman,England,Collins,Roberts,Miller, Mabutt, Gough,Campbell, King and Woodgate were/are all superior.

If we were to say that if all the squad was fit the first eleven is:-
Cerny
Hutton
King
Woodgate
Bale
Lennon
Jenas
Hudd/TT/Zok/OHara
Malbranque
Keane
Berbatov
In how many other postions could you name 10 superior players.
I think it would be easy to name 10 better midfielders, but could we name 10 better keepers,right backs,left backs,right wingers,left wingers or strikers? not easy I would speculate. Perhaps this testifies to the strength of the current team when all fit.

Not even a place for Nicola Berti, that's how strong that team is.

Gough was pretty good but better than Ledley, never ever ever!

And Baardsen was actually pretty good, 1 of his early games (maybe even his debut) against Liverpool was incredible.

No Berti, no Rocket Ronny Rozenthal or Oyvind 'the legend' Leonardsen', Dean ' the maestro' Austin, Acimovic or Toda.

Yeah i know, i couldn't think of anyone else at the time but as a half time sub i'd bring on Mimms in his place. That should strenghten that position.

And the REALLY scary thing is that all of these players played for us in the 90s, bar perhaps Doherty, can't remember when he signed.

Although personally I didn't think Baardsen was that bad. He had one good run in the side, where he played quite well, ahead of Walker and was then dropped for no apparent reason :shrug:

I've literally erased the 90s from my memory of watching spurs. I look at that side and its like they played for a different club.

Oh, ad Baardsen was probably the WORST kicker of a football. That much I do remember.

Actually, Bugsdad's list of CBs better than Dawson is pretty much the one I'd have come up with (there may be one or two others but I can't think of them at the moment). Ten better players in fifty years really isn't too bad.

I've literally erased the 90s from my memory of watching spurs. I look at that side and its like they played for a different club.

Dumitrescu should have been ace. He was SUCH a Spurs player on paper. Just didn't really happen for him
