Today (14/5/2018) marks the 37th anniversary of the win vs Manchester City, held on a Thursday evening at the old Wembley Stadium.

To our younger followers I can only describe it as a major football milestone of my life.

We had a modicum of success in the early 1970's but for me, then aged 25 it was just amazing stuff.

The Ricky Villa winning goal and so much more. You probably know the rest.

Deep joy.

37 years bloody hell I am old now

that evening remains one of very favourite football moments of all time - what a night...the atmosphere...I was 14 and afterwards it was the first time I had ever experienced my ears ringing....when Villa scored the winner I must of gone about 30 steps down ....pandemonium.

My memory was a lot of smiling and a lot of fun on the way home afterwards....strangers hugging each other....a whole train carriage holding its noses when the doors opened at Gillespie Rd/Arsenal station :joyful:

Indeed. I couldn't get a ticket for either game (managed to get get to the Highbury semi-final replay). Listened to the replay on the radio as I'm pretty sure sure that it wasn't televised.

Is this the official match thread? Any team news? Would be interesting to have a match thread for a classic game. Everyone starts watching at the same time and slags off Ricky Villa for playing shit.

That goal was never bettered, i was there and next to our UEFA Cup win was the best experience i have had watching Spurs.

The Villa goal was voted the best Wembley goal of the 20th century.

I was in the upper tier behind the goal and all I could think of at the time was 'shoot' 'shoot' loads of time before he actually hit it.

It may well have been 'shoot ya bastard' or something similar LOL

Certainly a great night. There with my Dad and Brother, after the long queue at Wembley for replay tickets (you could also queue at Spurs).
Ricky Villa's winner of course. The bloke sitting next to us had gone to the loo. When he came back his mate shouted "Did you see that!? Did you see that!?". He hadn't, he'd missed one of the greatest moments ever for a Spurs fan.

I remember me and my mate queuing up all night for the replay tickets, with a couple of blankets and cushions. we got their around 10pm (once we had sobered up from the 1st game) and the queue was already from the ticket office, down the high road, down Paxton, then the whole length of Worcester then Park Lane, heading towards Northumberland Park train station. we started queuing opposite Vicarage Rd.

That night we won the Cup was so special, and will always live with me.

I was there. Same place, right up the back behind the goal. I was 16yo. I swear when the Villa gaol went in, I levitated. Genuinely to this day can still feel the sensation. It was surreal.

That was payback for piss-balling us about with the Kenny Hibbitt dive to deny us a Saturday win.

talking about that never seen so many fans having a piss at the same time that wasn't anywhere near the lavs, but on the terraces on the north bank, and the police didn't even do anything about it

Everyone was wondering would Burkenshaw play Ricky in the replay after the shite game he had in the first one, thankfully Keith knew what he was doing.

My old man was on duty that night and came back with a programme, him and his colleagues had a kick around ‘after hours’!
Got both QPR programmes as well, KB signed the replay one.
Good couple of seasons!
