2-1 Again, But Still Hanging On...

Today we felt like we were desperately hanging on but last season, after Walker scored it felt very different. Even though the goal was in the 70th minute and score 2-1, the atmosphere was triumphant and no one thought we'd lose

Our victories v NuArse have always been by a goal. They've not ever been comfortable, even when we've clearly been the superior side. Contrast that to many recent defeats v them of the 5-2 and 3-0 variety. The last one could have been 9-2.

It is frustrating that again we've not converted our chances to really kill the game - Sig's does stand out as an obvious one. It always seems to be on the edge with Spurs - after those 2 goals I again started fantasising about a 5 nil level of win.

What stands out is trying to achieve major success on the cheap.

What upsets me, nay disgusts me, is that we don't win every game by at least 8 goals.

I mean we did it once against Wigan (although we did concede in that game which was completely unacceptable) so why can't we do it in every game?

AVB out!

Levy out!
Ultimate straw man.

I bet if we were to win the league, you'd moan we hadn't won it by enough points!

Arsenal are a seasoned CL team, they're hardly gonna roll over for us so we can spank their bottoms are they? That was a tough derby game and we edged it.

Yea we were hanging on sometimes but we still created some great chances.

It's clear we still need to improve but we're doing well.

Ultimate straw man.

Sorry but it's so easy to make a straw man out of such a straw thin argument.

But to argue it in a better way....

1. We've just won one of our most important games of the season. Why are you even focusing on the negatives? (that aren't even there)

2. The previous 5-2s were because of 1) a sending off and 2) trying to score more goals which is exactly what you're saying we should have done.

3. Our ability to grind out games at the moment is no fluke. It's a result of playing sensibly, playing to our strengths and playing to the way our manager is asking the team to play.

4. What stands out is that we ARE achieving success relatively on the cheap. If you see that as a negative thing then, quite frankly, more fool you.

3 points for a win whatever the score.
As The Rolling Stones used to sing (and probably still do)
You don't always get what you want
but if you try sometimes you might just get what you need.
Amen to that Mick.
Shame he's a gooner...

There is just no joy in winning a game by less than 4 is there.

What a anti-climax today was. The last half hour really dragged.

I'll be honest, I kind of agree with OP but I'm not that fussed because we took a massive gamble, (one that I personally would not have taken) by signing no strikers and saving money in January and relying on Gareth, and it might just pay off.

We need 2 solid strikers in the Summer as far as I am concerned, but with the new stadium underway, we will have to wait and see.

Can't say that I agree. We were a bit dodgy from when they scored their first to about the 65th-70th minute. But from 70 on, I thought we had clear control of the game and never felt like their was much doubt. In fact, like others have said, we should have put it to 4-1 in that time.

Our players looked fitter and stronger than theirs for the first time in a while, I thought we might run out of steam at the end but we didn't come close. Even when we let the goal in I didn't really feel nervous or get that sense of impending doom that used to be so familiar. I put it down to AVB's training methods, whatever he's doing is working a treat!

The fight we showed is what Arsenal fans have been complaining that their team lacks for ages now so I'm more than happy to only win by one goal.
