What are we know? 5th or 6th place after all the ups and downs so far this season?

That'll do pig, that'll do.

Why is everyone's default position negative regardless of the events? Look at the op, not even looking at the fact that we've won games when they could have easily been draws and losses.

Can we not celebrate something positive for a change?

It's unbelievable, for years we've complained about our inability to grind out wins, soft touch away from home, always concede late goals and such then when we start winning games in this fashion people are still moaning. It's Christmas, we've won away from home again, have a drink and enjoy it.

We were awful today but to be fair to the lads like away to Swansea it never stopped pissing it down all game.
Other years we would have wilted and torrential rain really does stop flowing skilful football.

I think its a combination of most of the PL being pretty dogshit and unable to punish us when we are looking shaky and are under the cosh, the individual quality that we do have being shown sporadically during games (and when the former is taken into consideration, therefore often enough to nick a game), plus a bit of luck as well.

If we keep going like this then its hard to see us pushing any higher than around 6th place, before even thinking about looking to seriously challenge (but maybe miss out eventually) for 4th spot. Despite the poor quality of the league, you cant keep playing badly... well, inconsistently... and not be found out at some stage.

Some completely pointless, but interesting Spurs stats which I've just had a look through to work out. This seems like as good a thread as any to stick them:

- Tottenham's last 6 league wins have all been 2-1.

- Of our 9 league wins, only 1 has been by more than a single goal (4-0 QPR)

- Either Kane or Eriksen have scored in our last 7 wins

- We have won 17 games in all competitions this year. An English player has scored in all but 2 of these.

- We've won 7 away games in all competitions this year. All by a single goal and 6 were 1-2.

- If you exclude the first 5 and last 5 minutes of each game, we'd be on 12 points less than we are (we'd be on 18 points from 18 games).

NOW YOU KNOW AYE?

Our last 6 league victories have all been 2-1. To me this says that we're struggling to put teams away while still giving away goals, but doing just enough to get the win
To me this says we have picked up 18 points.
I'll take winning while we're playing bad, I decided to give Poch a full season and 2 transfer windows before I started chewing the woodwork, I'm not worried at this time.

I don't know if anyone agrees but the season reminds me of the season we got in the CL for some reason in terms of how we play.

Fast counter attack play with Chadli/Lamela/Eriksen/Kane but what lets us down is once we score we start sitting back, keep the fast attacking up and we could score more than 2 a game.

Right now I'm more than happy just to pile up the wins no matter what the margin or how we've played. If we can ride out our next 2 games, our confidence will be sky high and some unfortunate buggers will surely be "caned".

No we must not, for we are spurs fans, thou shall not celebrate victory unless by a 5-0 scoreline and be playing fantastic football all at once. If we win not by this, then moaning shall commence and rightfully so.

And L'Arse 6-0.

when it comes to counter attacks, 2 things happen. Kane gets the ball and shoots hopelessly wide, or we dont look ready and noone can join or keep up with the play.

Its almost like counter attacking football isnt part of pochetinos gameplan, although i though that was the whole point of closing opponents down quickly and gettng the ball back.

'2-1 to the Tottenham, 2-1 to the Tottenham' sounds a lot better than '1-0 to the Arsewipes'!

I call this the Spurs 'Minimum Effort' syndrome . Get a goal up and relax .

We're still playing with a new manager, in a World Cup year (where Poch had so little time with the squad) and are only now, at Christmas, getting an indication Poch knows his first XI. I have high faith that, after Christmas, we'll click and start turning these 2-1s into 2 and 3-0s. That we've ground out so many shaky wins is a good sign IMO. If it continues until May, it will be a worry, but let's see what Poch can do in the second half of the season.
Add to that the potential of a few rotten apples out and a few players poch wants in jan we could improve a lot
