Something strangely comforting about about the 90s team. They taught me a lots of life lessons about losing, expectations, enjoying the little wins and getting the piss taken out of you.

I understand where you’re coming from to an extent but they were disappointing times. I used to think it was a successful season if we managed to finish with a positive goal difference!

Expectations were definitely less though. We now need/expect to win every game while then it was a pleasant surprise. Plus then I was at school and uni so didn’t have a season ticket like now, going to games every week then would have been a sobering experience.

If we were like it now the piss taking would be at a different level from the other london clubs’ fans what with the internet. We were lucky social media wasn’t around then!

Absolutely 100% agree. Supporting Spurs through the dark days of the 90s ment you made of cast iron. The results, the abuse, the awful managers and truly terrible signings. I remember a quote from our new owner at the time a Mr Alan Sugar "no more £750,000 Joe Soaps at this club" an obvious dig at poor Rocket Ronny Rosenthal.
That replay against Southampton - if only he could have managed that performance on a more regular basis.

I'm just old enough to have experience a fair amount of football pre-social media taking over the world. Increasingly now I stay away from it anyway. Absolute toxic shite for the most part and not just with regards to football.

That 3-0 home loss was what got Gross sacked in the end, IIRC.

I seem to remember losing the game before 1-3 at home as well, can't remember who we played now. Went to both games, we were truly awful

I starting supporting spurs when Klinsmann came in 1994 off the back of the world cup.
I was 12, almost 13 and, until then, uninterested in football. My family are Spurs but I had no idea of history then so, after winning our 1st two games of the season in goal tests, dive celebrations, a shower of media attention, I thought I was on to a life of glory.

Perhaps not having that past to ruin the (then) present for me, I always had fun that season.
Getting the points deduction and FAC Ban overthrown felt like winning the league.
Klinsmann was sublime as was Teddy, Dazza, Barmby. I remember beating the Arse at Highbury with Popescu scoring the winner off the break.
I was gutted we lost Klinsmann after a season that saw us finish 7th and get to the FAC Semi final. I thought we were gonna get Berkamp to replace him....

That game was amazing. I remember thinking the worst when we were 2-0 down ?

Too true. A mate of mine was watching it in a social club in Southampton so was getting plenty of stick until Rocket Ronnie came on.

I remember going out with friends to a bar to watch the game. When they picked me up we where already 1-0 down. I remember the bar being full of Liverpool fans and they where so smug because they had to play the winner of the Spurs game in the quarter final. Little did they know Jürgen Klinsmann was waiting for them and in the Kop End which made it all the sweeter ??

That was awesome wasn't it. Mind you, in fairness Joe Royle did a number on us with his 'dogs of war' in the semis. We just couldn't get hold of the ball.

Little did you know that Daniel Amokatchi was about to turn into Ronaldo in the Semi Final.

Christ buddy I just had a terrible Daniel Amokatchi flashback. That Everton game left me with PTSD ?

I was at Uni in Leeds so went to that one. My worst spurs memory. Cried my eyes out, only time Spurs have actually made me cry (other than tears of joy at Wembley in '91)

That Everton game was horrible just horrible buddy and to make it worse I had to watch it in a bloody hospital bed. By far one of the most gut-wrenching Spurs games I've had to sit through. The worst was by far and away Coventry City in the 87 final. I was 13yo and was in tears once poor Gary Mabbutt deflection looped up and over a helpless Ray Clemence. That is by far the worst experience I've ever had as a Tottenham fan. That was also the last time I cried over a Spurs result. Mainly because for me that is the lowest point in my Tottenham supporting experience ?

Random I cried when Chelsea beat us 2-1 with a last minute Mark Stein penalty at SB (can't remember the year), dad was a Chelsea fan and he was just rubbing it in.

That's understandable - that was a horrible way to lose a match. Ironic that we won the 1991 cup final on another own goal. Am I right in remembering that Mabbs was following in behind Walker anyway? He might well have made amends, although in most Spurs supporters minds, that great man more than made up for that unfortunate OG in his subsequent games for the club.

Mark Stein - there's a blast from the past.

Awful awful game. We never got going - I always remember everyone was talking up a United - Spurs final as being the dream final and Joe Royle saying that wasn't his dream final, that was a nightmare final. His tactics worked a treat and in the final too with Duncan Disorderly scoring the winner against United.
