Whilst easy to blame Gross, in his defence, he did inherit some absolute shite bought by Gerry " The Mullet" Francis
Fox
Sinton
Nielsen
Dominguez
Vega
Wilson
Berti
Scales
Armstrong

Francis had one of the worst records in the transfer market of any manager we've ever had. In three years at Spurs, and this is in the days before transfer windows, his only really good signing was Ginola. I guess Armstrong had a couple of ok seasons when he stayed fit.

He inherited a squad that contained Klinsmann, Sheringham, Anderton, Barmby, Campbell, Popescu and Carr and then handed over the mess you mentioned above three years later. Sugar claims in his book (amongst many other things that I wonder how true they are) that he spoke to Wenger in 1994 and considered him for the job - with players like we had at the time then things could have turned out very differently indeed if he'd complimented them with some of the gems he ended up signing for that lot down the road in the mid to late 90s...

Then we could be watching Tottenhamfan TV over the last few years as our decline really kicked in... oh to live in that parallel universe.

I think I’d be Claude. I don’t say, ‘blud’ or ‘fam’, so he’s out. Someone else can be DT... he’s a monumental prick.

Why am i thinking Grimsby. What dark thoughts am i suppressing?

That humiliation didn’t come until much later on in the 2000’s. Although I was really pissed off at that result at the time to put it in some perspective it was the league cup and every club has their fair share of cup giant killings.

Man City 4-3 on the other hand I still feel quite sick about to this day.

Sadly, I attended far more Spurs matches in the 90’s than I do now as I used to go to quite a few away matches then as well.

Fortunately I was taking quite a lot of illegal substances during this period which helped get me through it :D.

Me too. Me and my mates used to decide to go to the games on Friday night such was the low demand for tickets. We usually regretted it mind, the worst game I remember for that was a 0-3 drubbing at home to the mighty Sheffield Wednesday ?

This has turned into a pain nostalgia thread.

Strangely I'm happy to join in :ROFLMAO:

Something strangely comforting about about the 90s team. They taught me a lots of life lessons about losing, expectations, enjoying the little wins and getting the piss taken out of you.

I was at that game. The worm turned that day.

Can you imagine match threads if there was an SC in 1991?
Jesus.

This is what we had to rely on for entertainment during matches instead. Simpler times

90s looked better from a fan perspective. My first game was 97 I think.

Me too.

A Wednesday fan after the game said to me "If you're losing 3 - nil at home to our shower of shite you're in a world of bother"
That 3-0 home loss was what got Gross sacked in the end, IIRC.

I was the only spurs fan in a Yorkshire school of Manchester Utd, Newcastle and Liverpool fans... The odd Sheffield and Leeds about too.

Dark days.
