I think that is fair for every tennis tournament, but Wimbledon. British players at Wimbledon have to represent both themselves and their country - they don't really have a choice as it is thrust upon them by most British tennis fans!

True the media goes crazy. But what I don't appreciate is if you are just a fan of Tennis, you're called a "Glory hunter" (in your words). Being British doesn't mean I have to support somebody. I only got into Tennis 4/5 years ago (the first summer when I wasn't in school), so obviously when Federer was peaking. So I've always liked him.

Also I don't really see myself as British, I am more of a person that views myself as English above everything else. At least if Scotland does want to bugger off by themselves I won't have to put up with this supporting Murray crap!

Whilst I understand what you are saying but I do feel british during the olympics and etc. I don't hate the Scots, I just hate the fact that they hate us. That said Im not a Murray fan as Federer oozes class

I don't think anyone should have any obligation to support someone based on nationality, especially in an individual sport where personalities can be more prevalent. I still don't get all the Murray hate, though. But then he was never as readily accepted by the tennis fraternity as Come On Tim was, and we all know why that is.

But there's no shame in losing to Federer, he is the greatest tennis player ever. But the gap between Murray and Federer/Nadal/Djokovic isn't as massive as some would like to make out. After all, Murray's beaten Federer as many times as he's lost to him. The big difference is that he's never beaten him in a Slam, which is down to mentality rather than ability. I believe that's what he brought Lendl in as his coach for.

That seems silly. Why would I cheer on somebody I don't like just because they are British? I'd rather cheer on a person that I actually like, I was cheering on Tsonga when he played Murray as I really like the guy.

Thats fair enough. I didnt cheer Fed because I like Murrey and I think Feds a wanker!

The whole because hes british thing means bugger all. Im Welsh first, British second. ;)

Oh and I absolutely agree with nightgoat. Sorry Shady but federer et all are light years ahead of Andy? Absolute bollocks. You do realise They have played each other 16 times and won 8 games each.
Andy aint far off at all. Just needs to crack the grand slam hoodoo (which he will) and he will be sorted.

What did people think of the Andy interview immediately afyer the game? I though it was emotional and sincere and we finally saw a bit of Andy the man rather than Andy the player

I was absolutely gutted for Andy Murray yesterday - not ashamed to say I cried when he did too! Makes me mad that people dislike him because of something he said when he was about 18 regarding hoping Brazil I think it was would beat England in the World Cup...We are all bloody guilty of that anyway! I suppose it was because he is in the spotlight it was magnified more! I like his game and after showing emotion yesterday ( and some say it's because he lost..) he was showing how disappointed he was not just for himself, but for the UK as a whole......

As for Murray? Wonder if he will be wearing the Paraguay t-shirt anytime soon? I actually respected him for wearing that. So he should. As a proud jock he should always want England to lose. Proud Englishman here...unlucky sweaty!

That never actually happened. The whole anybody but England thing was taken out of context by another newspaper & everyone seemed to believe it.

Unfortunately it looks more and more like Murray needs all three of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic to have slightly off tournaments if he's to win a major. He's obviously not far behind any of them but whereas they all seem able to step up in finals, Murray doesn't quite get there.
