if berba stays which striker should be our 4th striker should it a new signing or one of our youngsters.

Imo as i have mentioned in other threads we should buy young so he can play left, right and act as our 4th striker or maybe bring in somone like mark viduka who doesnt mind not playing every game but does a really good job when called upon. thoughts?

young is never gonna come to us. Villa wouldnt let him go for anything less than 15mill and thats a ransom.

Viduka would be good but he gets fat when not playing like mido used to, so probably not the answer. Although he is close to berba in style so would work well with keane/bent. Also his wages would be horrendous.

Its a tough one, because you want quality but they need to know they will be sitting on the bench for most of the time. An ageing player in their last couple of seasons i guess.

I would say an 19/20 year old explosive goalscorer as we already have players who can play as target man or as a number 10 in the whole. An impact player and someone to push Bent for 3rd choice

A young Defoe would be ideal. I suspect he will be foreign as I can't think of any young English players who fit that profile.

There's this young striker at Southend that has scored 7 in 11 appearances in the league (8 starts). Maybe we should look at him.

Not a priority in my book. Need to strengthen the midlfield so that they can be creative and support the current strikers more, taking some of that workload off Berbatov.

No point in getting new strikers who are then going to fail through lack of consistent and proper service and support from an unbalanced and poor midfield.

Don't buy one. Just use what we have and promote from the reserves and acadamy as necessary. If we get stuck with injuries to Keane and Berba, leaving just Bent and a youngster we'll be in trouble but frankly it's a risk I'm prepared to take to prioritise other positions.

Besides, quality fourth strikers will only be happy at a club that is constantly challenging for honours on all fronts (i.e. ManUSA). Even Liverpool can't keep Crouch happy.

Let's get another Davids or Naybet to teach the youngsters we have about professionalism and to pass on their experience

A 4th striker is the least of our worries. We have to concentrate on pressing positions such as a new goal keeper, left winger, probably central midfield creativity.

Watching the ressies last night, Dawkins looked like he needs a loan spell away to get him up to speed and Pekhart needs a solid season of experience at that level before being considered for first team.

Someone like Leroy Lita or even James Beattie would do a job similar to what Defoe and now Bent have been asked to do.

Pekhart his a good year or two from being ready. He relies on his strength a lot and that hasn't developed enough yet to make him a serious player at adult level.

Point is we have no-one in the reserves or academy ready to be 4th choice. An injury and a suspension and we're playing square pegs like Lennon, Malbranque or Jenas there.

I know it's not a priority but we really need to pick up a £1m or £2m kid over the summer.

Pekhart put a good shift in last night - if we keep our top 3 would be happy with him as 4th

My votes go for one of:

Sergio Agüero (Argentinian) - 19yrs - Atletico Madrid

or

Vágner Love (Brazilian) -23yrs - CSKA Moscow

Aguero or Huntelaar get my vote although they would probably be more 2nd/3rd striker with Bent dropping to 4th.

Are you serious about Aguero? He's one of the hotest prospects in the world. If he came, not only would he cost a bloody fortune and we'd have a hell of alot of competition for him, he'd definately expect a starting role, which would mean dropping Keane.

He is left footed though!

Are you mad? Aguero is more like a superstar Berbatov replacement than fourth striker. IF he would even consider us, it would not be to sit on the bench.

Play with three strikers, Berbatov dropping back a bit to supply Aguero and Keane.

I nearly did a sex wee just thinking of that.
