For me it's because as soon as teams sit deep we become incredibly one paced. Eriksen has to drop deeper and our play becomes obvious and predictable. I honestly believe a player in the middle who can switch the play quickly AND help out Eriksen threading balls through would improve our attacking play immensely. ATM when we are IP against a deep sitting defence we just go side to side and back again until Eriksen comes to get it. We have players in front that have great movement but none of our CM's have the tools to find them with through balls with any sort of regularity. We need another option to keep things moving with a bit of quick thinking or to spread the play wide at pace, not one of those floated easy to defend passes Dier keeps attempting.
Agreed. When we had Mod and VDV in the same team we were massively creative, add in a Bale and a Parker or Sandro type and you've got great balance.

We're without doubt better coached now and the players all work harder off the ball than Redknapp's team but we rely so much on Eriksen. He needs a Modric type of player in midfield to take the burden off him, we've got everything else we need to hurt teams...

I think that’s a tad harsh... Lamela was in that batch and he has had a tough time with Injuries, doesn’t make him a failure. The issue now is how we get to the next level!

In the season he was injured we finished second and gained our highest ever PL position, Lamela wasn’t missed and wasn’t needed. When he is available he managed a grand total of 5 PL goals, playing regularly in a dominant team. I think two of those goals came towards the end of that 15/16 season. A truly pathetic return considering the favorable playing circumstances. He is a bang average player who we seriously need to upgrade on. We get to the next level by having better options than Lamela, Llorente, Jansen and the like. If we had made more frugal decisions when we had the money those players would already be here. Hence the demise of Baldini.

Well said mate, i just dont understand why everyone thinks Rose will be off in the summer.
If he isnt fit enough or good enough to be Spurs first choice left back then what other top side would want him and pay the huge amount of money Levy would demand?
At the moment Rose is constantly injured, unfit, out of shape and outspoken. If he thinks a top top side will be calling for him then he is badly mistaken.
He aint going to get better than Spurs at the moment. It will be a shock if he isnt here next season.
Of the two I'd rather it was Davies who went - so sick of his pace and delivery.

Yeah I don’t really see where Rose would go. Abroad is very unlikely imo, often spoke about being homesick for the north. So who does that leave city no Liverpool no chelsea no the only possible destination I see is United and I just think they will go younger and fitter.

Imagine Modric and Eriksen in the same team...pure sex :D

If Rose stays then Davies has to go. Whereas at RB, Aurier won’t be sold as he hasn’t had a full preseason yet, Trippier on the other hand simply isn’t good enough. We need like for like full backs and this could be resolved with 2 departures and the single signing of Pereira (can play both left and right back). We can then promote KW-Peters and have a choice of the following full backs:

Aurier, Pereira, Rose, KW-Peters

The Trippier funds would cover the Pereira purchase.

Centre back, likewise the Alderweireld funds would cover signing De Ligt.

Dembele + Sissoko would generate sufficient money to sign Frenkie De Jong. With Llorente and Janssen monies going towards Diawara.

We would then only need a net outlay for a new number 2 and say Maddison and Bale? or an alternative player such as Werner for example.
This makes so much bloomin' sense it won't happen :wtf:

Please no wholesale changes. We have a great squad just need to 2-3 exceptional players and also replace those that leave to get us to the next level. Remember we are punching above our weight.

At the same time we had sold Keane and Berbatov that previous summer.

The net spend was approximately 25 million that year (08/09). It was a defensive move, as relegation would have proved far more costly.

The underlying point I wanted to make was the notion that the net spend on players (excluding wages) could exceed 100 million this summer. Nothing in the boards previous history or actions support such a theory. It`s simply implausible.

What I suspect will make things different for next season is the shiny new stadium which must have a successful/challenging team to be successful and attractive to buyers.

We had the resources to buy salah and mane but they were not on the radar. 30m a piece plus 100k wages is more than doable for the amount of money our club rakes in.

We chose to buy the cheap options.

I do believe we looked at Sane, and he visited the training ground, but went to Liverpool who paid him £130k which was way over our wage budget

Change the club name and owner. Don't know what else is the answer tbh.

Maybe @Hercules can shed some light, are we looking for the areas that some of us have highlighted?
Mate you can't hassle him for info he provides us with it when he can and we all look forward to it when he does.
If he has something he will let us know in due course but the site is monitored by the club so he has to be discreet.

Davies is a 7/10 fullback, solid, does what it says on the tin type and a model pro but we need elite players (or players that are close to ) in the side and unfortunately he will never be this.
Rose when fit and on form as we know is this type of player but wether he gets back to the Rose of old is questionable. Certainly hope so.

Not sure if been mentioned, apologies if I've missed.

An area I would like to see improvement is our movement.

Yet again yesterday, time after time players were stood still waiting to recieve a pass. So predictable

Let's get back to lot's of runs and options when attacking. I know we are capable, we do this at times, but then for whatever reason, we seem to revert back to the mediocre, former stagnated brand of football that tends to seldom bring rewards.

Many times yesterday a player would make yards only to turn round and pass ball back to a stationary player.

Sometimes, yes a patient build up. All the time...no, that's not right.

Let's get the movement and fluidity back please, it's been in decline of late.

Horses for courses. Wing back bombing up and down and contributing more to the attack - old Rose wins all day long. Left back in a back four with a more defensive remit - either would be fine.
