I read an article in one of the papers mid week that Chelski were preparing a £55 million bid to sign Kaka, and I thought WTF!!

Now I know that the story is probably bullshit but what is a top player seriously worth?

Personally I don't think up to £20M or £25m is unreasonable IF that player can make a serious difference to a clubs fortunes i.e. entry into and/or a good CL run.

But seriously......£55 million for one player:eek:mg:

he is worth what ever a club is prepared to pay for them.

There was a story that Real are going to put in a 100m (not sure if that Euros or £'s) for Ronaldo.

If they club dont want to sell and have them on a long contract then the price goes up.

How much is winning the Champions league worth? they must get a fair wack back if he could get them that.

Add to that the merchandise, shirts etc that he will sell for them, imo Ronaldo is as big a brand name today as Beckham is, United probably think it too, and don't want to make the same mistake letting Ronaldo go as they did when they let Beckham go.

There's also the problem that they would be strengthening one of their main rivals for CL honours.

Can't see this one happening. If it does it will be for colossal money.

See in the long term, that could be peanuts compared to what he could make the club.

He's got a talent that could quite easily mean better results for the team, giving them more chance of revenue from the league, the CL and any other cups they enter as he could potentially help the to progress further. He has merchendising possibilities coming out of every angle and brings with him sponsorship, i would expect. His age is something that will push the price up and, until the thigh injury, has been pretty injury free - a players physical toughness and ability to not succumb to injury easily is worth more to a club than a lot of other factors as, if they aren't playing, they're not earning the club anything.

Horrible to talk about money and football like this in the same thread :( sucks... that's not football.

Beckham set the bar in his Madrid days. His USA contract is intrinsically linked to his marketting potential. I suppose it's also how Manchester City believe the Ronaldinho acquisition will pay for itself.

Beckham cost Real £25m, and they'd made that off Beckham merchandise within 3 months or so, and kept him for a few years, do the math, it's a hell of a lot of money.

When Chelsea is concerned, it's not how much a player is worth, but how much hot money the Ruskie has that need laundering.
