all the murphy love comes out now eh?

I said after the Dortmund game in pre-season Murphy would be a good candidate for LM if we didn't get Downing or Petrov or anyone. He got so much hate after cameo roles, it was amazing!

Tainio is ok, not very creative, pretty combative....he jus reminds me alot of players like Sherwood, Brown, S.Clemence and Freund who were good in a tackle and decent enough squad players, but provided nothing special to the side at all.

Murphy has been a fantastic addition and it now seems MJ has not the dilemma of no LM, but the dilemma of Smurphy or Malbranque.

Murphy got his chance due to injury. He has done well since coming in, but Tainio still has a big part to play for us this season, he is one of Jols favourites and will not be leaving.

Oh Yiddo ive been waiting. . . .

I honestly think he will mate.
Of what ive seen of Murphy once given a run he offers far more than TT and FFS he actually has been giving us cover defensively.
Ghaly offers the same versatility, more going forward and TBH more defensively as well, once Malbranque is added i really cant see him staying happy.

last year he got to start when fit basically, this year wont be the same due to the 3 new signings mentioned above, how happy will he be at 28 sitting on the bench for long periods?

I can see a January move with him going to germnay or france, and a certain Mr Downing coming in january.

if everyone is fit i would go with:

lennon----tainio----zokora----malbranque

if only he wasn't so injury prone.

Great idea, leave our top scoring midfielder and currently best player with Zokora out of the side and get a player in who is likely to play 1/2 games then be out injured.

Les go the whole hog, leave Lennon out when fit and play Salteir on right midfield.[/quote]

for me, jenas is a funny one because, while he has all the attributes to be a great player, he doesn't seem to have to belief that he can go and dominate games. a lot of the times he drops off too deep and his passing isn't good enough yet for him to be pulling the strings from that position. how often do we see him collect the ball square?

lennon and malbranque's defensive qualities aren't exactly their strong suits so, in my opinion, a central midfield of tainio and zokora makes good sense.

Murphy has done well since coming in - I was particularly impressed by the his willingness to track back and put a few taclkes in last night. He is a quality player, with experience, who was sold by the Scousers primarily because his style didn't suit the tactics there were going for.

On the other hand, I do think Taino is a very good squad player. The fact that he has never really been fully fit since joining does mean, IMHO, that you shuoldn't be judginh him so harshly. And HE WAS FREE

I would rather highlight the strength in depth that we have now in midfield. It is not so long ago that first choice midfield was an ageing sicknote, an even more ageing Poyet, a never had been lightweight Rohan Ricketts (where is he now, send out a search party), and a not-quite-made-it-at-Everton Simon Davies  Well, we could always deprive defence of Ledders by drafting him into midfield :(

When everyone is fit, Teemu will be no more than bench fodder. I think Hudd, JJ, Zoko, Murph, Ghaly are all ahead of him in the CM pecking order.

Nice guy and great attitude but just quite a limited footballer.

But that's the whole point. As benchfodder he is exceptionally good. Benchfodder for a good team. First teamer for mid-table team.

I completely agree. Twas merely making the point that he will do well to make the bench for us. He could quite happily be Charlton or Wigan's midfield general. It shows how far we have come I guess, just looking at the strength of our bench vs Besiktas proves that.

 Did you see my post directly above yours?

Compare Tainio as - what  - second/thrid choice for his position with Poyet in Wheelchair/Sicknote (also) in wheelchair , (Riders of) Rohan Ricketts (where now?) and Evrton misfit Davies. Teemu is good/verstile enough to have pushed most of those for a place and they were our first choice/only choice/no choice midfield

I said (not here unfortunately...) after heard that my countryman TT is joining the Spurs that he will not be a starting 11 player in the Prem. I just thought and still think that he is not strong enough for the English game and the game is too quick for him (althought he is of course quick but just do not have enough time to think and see what to do with the ball). in france the game was slower than in England and he had much more time with the ball and to move it forward. And he is and has always been a sicknote. So, in my opinion he is not good enough to be in the starting 11, but perhaps BMJ will use him as a backup. But somehow I have the feeling that he will leave us, if not already in Jan, then next summer. Sorry to say this, but that is how I see it.
