A testimonial for Darren Anderton

I was at a Legends night up in Bolton on Friday night hosted by Darren Anderton and Micky Hazard, and I asked when the club were going to recognise Darren's contribution to the club (12 years, still the record holder for most Premier League appearances for Spurs etc) and give him a proper testimonial game. Everyone in the room agreed he more than deserves one after his time at the club, and we have resolved to do something about it.

We believe the way to get this to happen was for the fans to get on board and let the club know. Another guy in the North West Supporters Club has set up this petition, which will hopefully be the first step. Once we have a load of signatures, our supporters club will send a letter out to the club and Daniel Levy on letter headed paper to hopefully make the club aware of the support for this testimonial among the fans. We're just shy of 1000 signatures over the course of the weekend, hopefully we can push that number up a lot over this week. We're also sharing it amongst some of the other regional supporters clubs to get support there.

Link to the petition is here:

Have signed it, but the problem you have now is where would it be played?

Why? I think he missed more games than he played. That's not a bad living for a semi fit footballer.

Maybe Southampton can have one for him.
Despite all the injuries do you know who Spurs' current record holder for most games played in the Premier League for us is?

Darren Anderton.

I wish fans would show him as much respect as he has for this club. Fans will bitch and moan about players who don't do it, but we're way too quick to disparage those who do.

Loved Anderton, such a shame he had so many injuries and wasn't able to reach the heights that his ability deserved. Still remember his goal for England against Sweeden cracking it from 20yrds on the half volley and bouncing in off both posts :woot:

Definatley deserves a testimonial and had no idea that he didn't ever have one (bit shocked too)

Does that warrant a testimonial though?

He had a clause in his contract making him equal paid with the highest paid player. Great clause when he was perpetually injured.

I loved him as a player but being a footballer doesn't mean it owes you a living. The reason he spent 12 years with us is because other clubs wouldn't touch him with a barge pole because if his injuries.

Jesus, he didn't get injured on purpose ffs

I thought 10+ years service was testimonial worthy. 12 is well past that

Met him once in Knightsbridge a few years back. Had nothing but nice things to say about Spurs. Even got an autograph lol

How good was he? I just remember him in the late 90s as a half decent player nothing more. :(

Great right foot, shooting, passing vision all top notch. Before the injuries had great stamina and enough pace to get in behind and score goals. After the injuries was a decent playmaker from the right or center. Had a great understanding with Teddy.

It's a great clause for someone whose job is to play football. Why would you begrudge him earning the most he could? The club were the ones prepared to put that clause in in the first place.

The reason he spent 12 years with us is because other clubs wouldn't touch him with a barge pole because if his injuries.

If the club didn't want him around they wouldn't have ever renewed his contract. He also turned down a move to United.

The reason he was at Spurs for twelve years, mate, is because he turned down Fergie halfway through his stay. What would you rather have, a guy injured through no fault of his own, or someone playing that long uninjured and truly not giving a shit about the club?
