Great right foot, shooting, passing vision all top notch. Before the injuries had great stamina and enough pace to get in behind and score goals. After the injuries was a decent playmaker from the right or center. Had a great understanding with Teddy.

He could also take a corner, which is an art we've rarely seen since!

Hell of a right foot and such a genuine nice bloke. I've passed this around the Spurs Thailand fan base so it should pick up a few signatures.

Done, not sure why it never happened. I think they did not renew his contract suddenly!

How good was he? I just remember him in the late 90s as a half decent player nothing more. :(
England regular, and without him in the bad teams we could well have been in trouble. Could have playerd for a top team in that era

Does that warrant a testimonial though?

He had a clause in his contract making him equal paid with the highest paid player. Great clause when he was perpetually injured.

I loved him as a player but being a footballer doesn't mean it owes you a living. The reason he spent 12 years with us is because other clubs wouldn't touch him with a barge pole because if his injuries.
None of that is reason to not give him a testimonial. In fact most of those accusations could be levelled at Ledley King.

It just seems a weird thing to be so against. If you don't like it, don't go. You don't need to actively picket it.

Love him. Fantastic player and signed. Could have left us but didn't and we stuck by him too.

Anyone who is against this is just being an unnecessary contrarian, there's absolutely no reason why he doesn't deserve a testimonial.

I'll sign as soon as I get over a niggling finger injury. Should only be about 5 months. Only kidding. Signed.

He turned down Man Utd to stay with us.

Edit: just realised other posters have already pointed this out.

I was amazed to see that he still has the record for PL appearances for us, and by quite a distance as well (299 appearances, followed by Defoe on 276). In fact, the nearest of the current squad are Walker (177) and Lloris (161) - which means that Anderton will hold the record until the summer of 2020 at the very least.

If that's not worthy of a testimonial then I don't know what is.

It is also quite interesting that he managed 31 more league appearances than Ledley over a year shorter period, yet is still ridiculed by several posters in this thread.

Full list is here if anyone is interested: http://www.11v11.com/teams/tottenham-hotspur/tab/stats/option/appearances/

Of course. Like when we did offer him a new contract after he initially refused in 1999 (having the option of a free that summer). Then again in 2001...?

Isn't it the norm for players nowadays to donate the takings to charity rather than pocket them?

Why? I think he missed more games than he played. That's not a bad living for a semi fit footballer.

Maybe Southampton can have one for him.

You're right. Maybe if he held the club record for most PL appearances he'd deserve a testimonial. :banghead:
