Almost too many to write.

I think if there was one WTF moment for me it was letting Sheringham go for £3.5m. When Teddy left I thought we were making a mistake but I accepted he was 32 and £3.5m was good money back then. And then we go and sign Les Ferdinand for £6m. Absolutely crazy. There have been so many nearly good teams, but I'd have loved to have seen Teddy and Ginola in the same side and had Teddy known we were signing Ginola he may well have stayed.

I was disappointed when Campbell left but I wasn't gutted like so many as I thought he was really over rated (and his mate Carr). But when he went to Arsenal on that free transfer my mood changed completely. What a two faced lying ****.

When you look back one of things that is most frustrating for Spurs fans is that we do attract great players. Even during the turgid 90's we still had the likes of Lineker, Gazza, Sheringham, Klinsmann, Campbell and Ginola. When you think how many of our players go on to win titles and cups at other clubs, that's what hurts. No point daydreaming about what might have been but every now and then I catch myself thinking what if we'd kept Carrick and Berbatov and then added Bale and Modric etc.

That was a last 16 match, not a semi. And we were in the middle of the title race with Leicester at the time, so it was somewhat understandable.

Ah sorry, thought it was the semi for some reason. Shows what I know :D

Not saying it wasn't understandable, as you say we had a chance of the title so had to prioritise. I'm just saying it was one of those moments where I saw that and knew right away we were gonna get slaughtered and that would be it for the EL.

With Arnesen it really felt like we were finally heading in the right direction and with one swoop it was taken away by a club I detest and felt like it was just to derail our progress.
As soon as I read this thread, this is what came to mind. There we were making positive changes getting players like Edgar Davids, people begrudging us because of Arnesen's famous black book, then he fucks off to Chelsea of all clubs! :(

I am surprised no one hasn't mentioned our last minute star signing at the end of the transfer window two years ago, Sissoko. :cautious:

I suspect ZZ resigning is going to have a huge domino effect on us and our players

I remember it being on the news at 10 that Spurs were being docked points, fined and banned from the FA cup after financial irregularities. This was before the blanket coverage, it was unusual for football to be a news story that wasn’t at the end of the news. This was the official end of the 80s good times, rubber stamped.

Genuinely thought we were fucked. It was all doom and gloom, I couldn’t believe it. Why I will always have a bit of a soft spot for Sugar, whatever mediocrity he ushered in as a result. It really looked like the wheels had fallen off. That was a very dark day. Might have cried

Can't believe nobody has mentioned this yet.

Seeing White Hart Lane disappear almost instantly after we smashed almost every team that came to visit last season.

Take me back to N17

We've all certainly paid our dues being Spurs fans. Nobody in their right mind could ever call us glory hunters.

I remember all of the above experiences and they all send a shiver down my spine, but for me, the one which still rankles is Lasagne-gate. Last game of the season, and all we had to do was beat a poxy West Ham side to claim our hard earned Champions League place over the red scum after a long hard season. Our first ever Champions League qualification after having been the butt of all the snidey comments, and all the jokes from scum fans about us being bottle jobs, always falling at the final hurdle.

Getting done by that filthy mob on that terrible last day when we could barely put a team out due to food poisoning, and seeing them celebrating as if they'd just won the Champions League, and knowing how funny that must have been for the scum fans who could barely believe their good luck...!

I live in Islington. I don't need to say any more than that. You can guess what this entire borough was like for two sodding weeks afterwards. I turned myself into a virtual hermit despite my missus being totally unsympathetic. They just don't get it do they.

A horrible horrible time for me.

At the time (although in hindsight, it seems insignificant) it was when Frank Arnesen went to Chelsea. He was brought in as the great hope as part of a new continental structure. Knew and liked Jol. I though it was the start of the Tottenham revolution. Then I saw that yellow banner on SSN, mouth agog.

When we were relegated I always believed our great club would never suffer that fate.

When Campbell joined the woolwich mob

When Bill called it a day
You have my top two: Relegation killed me, so upset that I buggered up my exams and that changed my life.
Then when C***bell joined Arsenal, I was shocked, speechless and hurt.
And like others on here, I believe he is wretched enough to have zero regrets about it and he'd do it again in a flash.

The day Irving Scholar walked thru the door
when he arrived we had our own training ground ;owned the stadium; had many other properties plus and mainly a side with top players. He then floated the club on the stock exchange for about 22£million a huge amount at the time by the time he left he had sold all the properties owned by the club also he had sold the training ground as well as the club no longer owned WHL
The ultimate betrayal was the selling of Hoddle;Waddle;Hodge;Allen;Roberts;Gough;and others who some of you could name on top of that we were9£million in debt .If Sugar had not come along we would be where Leeds are now
If only Sugar had good football nous then we would have been where we are now 25 years ago

Wow. This is a depressing thread. After we’d all worked so hard to repress so many memories.

There really are a lot. Could beat the Bale thread for posts at this rate...

I've lived through the glory years in the 60's and the terrible mid point of the '70s and relegation and so on. Nothing beats relegation. That was the worst for me. Watching that brilliant 60's team fall apart, the mini revival in the early 70's and then Bill leaving etc. The second division was like a bad dream but luckily we came back. Lets hope we don't have our dreams snatched away again.

So many people have said they enjoyed the season in the second division. Before my time but was this not the case or was it just the travelling fans?
