We should wrap up top spot by the time the four games are done and dusted - it's a weak group and we should get stronger as time progresses.

Which CL rejects are looking good? Only Liverpool potentially (who we can't face). I'm happy with any of the others, they are all shit.

PSV, Valencia, Celtic, Lazio, Sporting and Lyon all have a good chance of becoming the CL rejects.

But if we were to finish 2nd and face the CL rejects, we get the "advantage" of playing our second leg at home

To be honest I'll be massively grateful to qualify - in whatever position - even if we beat Aalborg - we can still miss out if we lose in Belgium.

So I'll take 3rd and be hapy about it - but of course if we can finish 1st - marvellous :)

Mathematically possible, but unlikely. Aalborg would have to beat both Getafe and Hapoel.

Besides, Anderlecht aren't the team they were in 1985. One has to admire Spursking's devotion to duty, as the Belgian league is pretty much poop these days. I've watched a couple of games in pubs over there and they were entertaining enough, but the standard really is poor.

Hi 57 :) I take your point it's unlikely, but I do fear if Aalborg won at home to Getafe - unlikely but not impossible - then I would have real fears that they could win in Tel Aviv

I'm sure they'll do Hapoel, but Getafe are a lot better than their league position suggests, and their league form has started to pick up; they've won three of their last four. Actually, make that four of their last five. They beat Barca 2-0 tonight.

I still don't understand why the Champs League rejects get a second bite of the apple... what clown thought that one up!?!

Interesting read. There seems little doubt that the whole thing has become a massive farce and is opening gulfs between the big clubs and the smaller ones. The Champs League simply perpetuates a big four situation because of the extra money and prestige it gives to the clubs involved; who are then able to pay the wages and bring in the star names; who then earn the club increased merchandising... etc... It's no wonder that teams have taken to releasing 24 kits a season and are charging ridculous amounts for tickets, food, programmes, etc. It is the only way to even pretend you can compete.
