OK we'll try this thread again.

Everton winger Aaron Lennon was detained under the Mental Health Act by police over concerns for his welfare.

The 30-year-old was taken to hospital "for assessment" after police were called to Salford on Sunday.

Lennon is now "receiving care and treatment for a stress-related illness", his club has said.

The England international, who joined Everton from Tottenham in 2015, has not played for the first team since February.

Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called at around 4.35pm to reports of a concern for the welfare of a man on Eccles Old Road.

"Officers attended and a 30-year-old man was detained under section 136 of the Mental Health Act and was taken to hospital for assessment."

News of Lennon's admission has led to an outpouring of support on social media from those involved in the game, as well as fans of his current and former clubs

Had just noticed in the last few weeks that he'd dropped off the radar a bit at Everton. Hope he's ok.

Yorkshire lad.

Azza was class for us through the Jol and Redknapp era's. Worked his socks off, had a great rapport with Corluka and then Walker, and at his peak he was absolutely lethal on the break. Standouts were the 5-1 against the Goons, the goal against Chavs, and his running ragged of both Milans.

Mental illness is truly awful and destructive for the person and their loved ones, having witnessed it in my family. It makes me very sad to hear he's been sectioned, but it means that he will be getting the help and treatment he needs.

All the best Azza.

Hope he gets well ASAP. Really loved the little guy. I don't think he ever wanted to leave us. Over critisized and under rated

The 9-1 v Wigan Defoe took the headlines but he ran the show that day.

I suffer from stress related problems on top of having ADHD. I know how hard mental break downs can be.

Hopefully he will get better and that he surrounds himself with geniune people who love and care for him.

All the best Aaron.

really horrible news, loved the way he and Walker complimented each other down the right. Always a good servant for the club hope he works through it.

Get the help you need wee man and life can be great.

There are lots of us here that have been through similar issues and most importantly come through the other side.

I reckon Charlie Corluka and Lennon complimented each other better. Always played well together.
