Part of me is fuming because Jan never gets any sort of recognition for being quite honestly one of the best ball playing CB's i've ever seen as well as an absolute stalwart the past two seasons. The other half is glad he doesn't because then Barca would come calling...

Obviously it's click bait, it's even shit bait at that.. But:

Kane worth about what Man Utd bought Lukaku for when he had like, what, one year left on his contract at Everton?

The Harry Kane that scored the most goals in the top leagues in the world in 2017? The only one I'd even be prepared to discuss being on the same level as Kane is Lewandowski, who plays in a team that consistently walks the league in Germany (and as such he should be scoring a lot..)

Vertonghen is better than Toby
It's a funny one. Together, side by side I'd rate Toby as the better all-round player, as he offers so much more moving forward and in the opponents area as well as being a stunning defender. However if we were to lose one I'd want to keep Jan. He's a leader, and will be valuable for the development of Sanchez and Foyth.

Would you be saying that if it was Jan who was looking like a possibility to leave and not Toby?

They are both first-rate centre backs. I don’t think you can really say one is much better than the other.

Nah I can see why you think that but absolutely not. I've got nothing against Toby at all.

When he first signed I thought Toby had the better season. But Vertonghen has come on leaps and bounds. Last and this season he has been absolutely brilliant.

Agree with this. Alderweireld in his first season and then up until that nasty leg injury was untouchable, best centre back in the league. Since then he's not quite been as good as before, mainly physically he's a little more tentative in what he does and is a bit frail/injury prone in the last year. Vertonghen in that time though has stepped up his consistency of his defensive work, and the change to three at the back saw him rediscover his adventure with the ball at his feet, which he'd left in the locker for a couple of years (and was something that I was lamenting for a while).
