As you no doubt know there is a bit of speculation about us signing Adam Johnson from Middlesboro in january.

My father in law is a season ticket holder at Boro and has told me that they are talking about it up there as well and the guys he goes with seem to think that Johnson will definitely be leaving in January and they think he will come to Spurs.

They are pissed off as Johnson is very popular with the fans up there and a lot of them prefer him to Downing and would sooner the club sold Downing so that Johnson could get a regular place.

Just thought I would share.

Thanks for the info. Personally I haven't seen much of Johnson, but from what I've heard he should be a great player....

We simply have to face the fact that we can't sign the world beaters just yet. So I reckon that Adam Johnson would be a good solution.....

It's a funny one as Johnson is pacy, skillfull but from what I've heard his end delivery isn't as good as Downing's - who isn't as skilled and pacy as Johnson.

Johnson does sound like a left-sided Lennon to be honest which is in no way a bad thing but we also have Danny Rose who potentially could be better so it'll be interesting to see how things pan out...

Why oh why could we not have just bought Martin Petrov in the summer who is bloody quality and experienced!

I would be stunned if Wendy continues this "buy for the future" policy. The lesson of the summer was that £30m should buy you at least one guaranteed first-team starter. I've seen fees of up to £7m quoted for Johnson and that's way too much for someone who will bea squad player at best.

Any thoughts on Mendieta, who seems to have been frozen out completely?

Until I read that I even forgot he was there, he must have barely played in the last couple of years.

Without looking I would think he's in his mid 30's and is probably about finished.

Once upon a time they used to rave about him up there, next time I speak to the FIL i'll ask him.

Nah, my Gaffer's a big Smoggie.

Mendieta was absolutely terrific for them, but he fell out with Southgate (all Southgate's fault apparently) and because the manager was trying to assert his authority he has banished the teams best player to training with the reserves. He didn't want to sell him, but then in the summer they tried and Mendieta told them to sod off as they'd treated him so badly.

Not sure whether it's a ringing endorsement of Mendieta's attitude, but my understanding is that he is free in the Summer and I'm sure then he'll be picked up by someone pretty good, so why not slide in there with a cheeky bid and hope he has enough of life on the sidelines.

Was this the lad on loan at watford? If so, I saw him a few times. He looked the business. Watford have missed him badly since he left.

No to both of them for me, we need major upgrades and I don't see either of them falling into that category.

I go and watch watford with my sisters b/f a few times this year and they have missed him since he left.

he plays right on te touchline and can beat players and put a good cross in, but remember that is in the championship.

i think a 3 million bid will be good

HoofHarted on COYS posted a couple of days ago that he'd been told we're interested. Not seen him myself. I used to get excited about signing players like this but if he was that good, why's he not playing for boro. It's dubious whether or not Downing is good enough to improve us significantly and if Johnson is behind him in the pecking order.

If he's one for the future that's fine by me, as long as we also buy a couple of players that will actully make a big impact on the first team.

I've heard good things about him, but I never trust fans opinions when it comes to judging tricky wingers. They are always a good watch, so tend to be over rated. Ever since Taarabt did his first step over half of Spurscommunity see to think he's the next Ronaldo.

Stoof can't stamp anything until January 1st. And he loves stamping things almost as much as he loves Spurs. So we must suffer until his two loves can coexist

We were linked with him a few years ago so I always had a liitle look at him whenever he played. Personally from what I saw of him then and in the games for Watford he looks a good player.

I'm still not sure if Boro will be willing to do business though!
