Substituted for his own safety apparently, after being targeted by missiles from the crowd. Fuck knows what goes through what passes for Millwall fans' brains.

Milwall beaten 5-1 at home by Derby, a Milwall fan got on the pitch and jostled Derby manager Clough in the Derby technical area, whilst the Milwall fans presumeably did not appreciate their last seasons loanee Smith being part of a side who comprehensively outplayed them.

I thought Milwall fans had changed, but maybe not.

Can't believe this sort of thing still happens. Should make Millwall play home games behind closed gates

Any idea how he went?

Seems to have been playing regularly now - although matches stopped for intyernational break. Last match 5 Oct v Leeds (win), next match 19 October v Watford away.

Hopefully McLaren (new manager) will know of him from his England days and continue to play him.

There hasn't been much news of Smith - which could be negative as he's played at Championship level before so I'd hope he would have been tearing it up at Derby.

Surely he would be an adequate back up for Walker if we can ship out Naughton.

IMO Smith is a much better 'like for like' full back (ie speedy attacking full back) as back up for both Walker and Rose (Smith is right footed but has covered at LB), If he had been in the squad, we might not have had the farcical position v West Ham where without Rose and an injured Walker we didn't have much attacking threat from our full backs to provide the width to support the inverted wingers.

By contrast Naughton may be an adequate defensive full back but he lacks the attacking nous and speed to provide width.

The only slight worry I have is that I haven't seen any reallly positive news about Smith's performances during 2013 and nor did he appear in pre-season for Spurs - but certainly on his 2011 and 2012 form imo he would be a good alternative to Naughton.

Was going to mention the same thing. Will be good for the Young Lions. Might push Smith a little more for his place which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

If that is goung to be the way forward, I'd bring him back to Spurs - he can play both RB and LB so an option if Rose.and.or Fryers are out

For fuck sake.

If isn't good enough for Derby County, he certainly isn't good enough for us.

I am sick of making this point repeatedly, Kyle Naughton is a considerably better right back than Smith.

Every single Smith loan has been plagued by inconsistency and poor form glossed over by the odd gung-ho performance here and there.

Not good enough.

Never has been and never will be.

Time to move on.

Have you seen him play ?

Soldado was dropped by AVB a couple of weeks ago. Not good enough for us ?

Yes, I have seen him play whenever he has been involved in any televised/Spurs games.

Are you seriously likening Defoe starting ahead of Soldado for one game, to Smith being dropped yet again for a lower league side?

Veron was a star for Argentina and playing in Italy

However he never lived up to that standrard for either Chelsea or Man U - reason was that he didn't suit their type of play.

Derby do not play like Spurs - hence your statement isuggesting a loaneee at Derby being dropped is invalid.

If you read my posts carefully you will see that I say Smith as an attacking RB fits Spurs requienment for attacking full backs - Naughton is ok as a defender but is not a good attacking full back, hence Spurs/AVB's desired formation falls apart when Naughton plays.
