Adam Smith has joined Leeds United on loan for the rest of the season.
The England Under-21 full back, who has made 86 appearances during loan spells in the Football League, had been with League One promotion hopefuls MK Dons before being recalled and will now make the step up to the Championship.

Joining up with Townsend

Rumour from goal.com man that there is a recall clause in case Kyle Walker is injured. Might come in handy if Corluka really is off to Bayer Leverkeusen, but a big step up for Smith !

@gstobart Greg Stobart

Loan of #THFC youngster Adam Smith to #LUFC includes a recall clause. Might come in handy as Spurs will be left short of right-backs

Smith made his debut with 90 minutes in a 3-0 away win against Bristol City - not much reaction on the Leeds forums other than relief after they sacked manager Grayson during the week, but Smith described as having a 'solid' performance.

Fans said it was too cold for subs (danger for muscles if brought on as a sub after other players warmed up) so Townsend left on bench

Colin's sent both our players back? Oh well, loan them to someone better.

Will be Warnock's loss.

I'd like to see Smith given a go against Stevenage.

According to the official Club twitter Smith has been recalled today to provide right back cover

Which is not a bad idea - he can also play left back to provide an alternative to Rose at LB as well - but after not appearing for Leeds at the weekend after a good debut, left feeling that Leeds decide to cut loanees Smith and Townsend from their squad http://www.leedsunited.com/news/2012...247585_2620128

Bates/Warnock statement :

1 They want to bring in 2 or 3 new faces
2 Existing squad is too large

hmm, easiest way to reduce the squad is to send back some loanees....

Hope Smith gets some game time, otherwise it would have been better to have found another championship/lower Premiership side for him (he didn't look out of place playing for MK Dons against Premiership QPR and Shaun Wright Phillips so a step up is not so fanciful - but as the QPR game was in the FA Cup I think he is not able to play against Stevenage ).

BTW, a reminder of Adam Smith's potential from his first team debut in a pre-season freindly against Borussia Dortmund :

Full time: Spurs 3-0 Dortmund

87 mins: GOAL-SPURS: Lennon broke down the right, played in Smith whose perfect cross was tapped home by O'Hara. Spurs 3-0 Dortmund.

75 mins: SAVE-GOMES: This time with his legs from Sahin as he seemed to be going the wrong way, then great tackle from Smith to stop Klimowicz follow-up.

74 mins: SAVE-GOMES: Flew to his right to stop a 25-yard Sadrijaj effort.

71 mins: A big moment for 17-year-old right-back Adam Smith as he comes on to replace Jenas. Zokora moves into midfield.
