We can announce that Adam Smith has joined Millwall on a three-month loan.

Well he wasn't getting any game time, except Carlisle, so hope he gets lots of game time at Millwall, which was a club good for both Kane and Townsend's development.

Best of luck to the lad - talented rigtht back.

Let's hope he fares better than the last young right back we loaned to Millwall. By the time Phil Ifil returned to White Hart Lane his nerves were so shot he was treating the ball like it was an unexploded grenade. The loan transformed from a future England star to a future Kettering reserve.

Ouch. By the sounds of it, Smith cannot fare worse than Ifil !

Think Millwall have changed a lot since then, as I said Harry Kane and Andros Townsend both played well there on loan.

I work with a Millwall season ticket holder, he's really happy with this loan signing.

Look forward to hearing his thoughts.

I think Smith is a good full back, he seems to show drive from the full back position, likes a tackle, and while he ultimately might not make it with us given what a machine Walker can be, he should have a good career.

This loan spell will be a good test for him.

Sherwood: Smith could be first-choice at Spurs in future

TOTTENHAM technical co-ordinator Tim Sherwood believes Millwall have a player of Premier League quality on their hands in new signing Adam Smith.
Smith has joined the Lions on a three-month loan and will go straight into the side to face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday.
The 21-year-old becomes the eighth Spurs youngster to move to The Den since 2005, following in the footsteps of Andros Townsend and Harry Kane, and Sherwood has revealed Tottenham's faith in manager Kenny Jackett.
"Kenny has been very good with our players in the past and we trust him to do right by them," he told NewsAtDen.
"You can't always say that about other managers and that's why we continue to loan our players to Millwall. They get treated well and it's good atmosphere to play in.
"The crowd are a little bit lively and that's good, because it adds to the pressure of performing on a live stage. Sometimes these boys miss out on that."
While Jackett has already hinted that he will assess whether to pursue a permanent deal for Smith in the January transfer window, Sherwood confirmed that the England U21 international has a long-term future at White Hart Lane.
"We've got high hopes for him," he admitted. "Adam is not someone we're looking to get rid of.
"At this stage he just needs to go out and get some games. He could play in the Premier League. It just takes longer for these boys to get their opportunity but he's got a great chance of making his way at Spurs.
"Kyle Walker and Kyle Naughton are both England internationals and Adam is already playing for the U21s. He wouldn't be playing at that level on a regular basis if he wasn't Premier League standard.
"At this moment in time, we think he could be the future for Tottenham and we want him to continue to learn. He's a great lad, has a good attitude and he'll knuckle down."
While Smith has been brought in to provide defensive cover with Alan Dunne suspended and Jack Smith injured, Sherwood says the right-back is equally adept when going forward.
"He's an all-round full-back," he said. "He has that sense of knowing when to go forward. He's got great delivery.
"In terms of the quality of his crossing, he's up there with the other right-backs we have got at the club. He has real ability in the final third. He's a very good acquisition for Millwall."

Sherwood certainly talking him up.

He's had good reviews from fans at Bournouth, MK Dons (including getting 2 goals in their 'Goal of the Season' shortlist) and Leeds over the last 2 seasons, so all the signs are good that he should shine at Millwall.

Saw him first hand for England U21s a couple of weeks ago and he was very good for them as well.

We'll probably sell Walker to Real Madrid in a couple of years for a ridiculous sum and Smith will become a starter.

Played 90 and got booked yesterday. Mate at work who went said it wasn't a great game but Smith was decent, in his words 'he looks like you can trust him not to drop a bollock, which is important in the Championship'.

Did you press him for information on what level of football you can afford to 'drop a bollock'?

I was impressed with him in the U19 Semi Final against Arsenal a few years ago, be good to see him make it.

He's a Millwall fan mate...I didn't want to make the question too taxing! Just in case he forgot who I was and ate me.

Reports from the chap at work not so sound after yesterday, reckons he needs to 'beef up a bit', otherwise he'll struggle at a higher level, general consensus is that they are very impressed with him going forward, and he does love to get forward, but his defensive work is quite far behind.

To me, that's quite normal for a young full back I think.
