Personally i'm excited to see how Ade will link up with the new signings in midfield. We have questioned his work rate in the past (and rightly so) but we've lacked creativity before meaning Ade has to contribute more in the build up. With Ericksen, Lamela, Townsend, Holtby, Paulinho etc. i'd hope we have the right group of players to work together and let Ade get on with scoring goals. I hope he plays tonight and I hope he does well, it will be great to have him back.

I hope he does well for us. We need him. You cant go through a PL season with two strikers. That is just suicidal!

Technique? What about strength and height?

Adebayor is 6'3". That gives him a huge advantage in holding off players, heading and challenging for the ball.

You'd think wouldn't you, yet I'm sure Defoe won more headers than Ade last season.

The disadvantage to Ade is that he decides weather he will be Ghost Ade - the invisible wanderer of the pitch with the first touch of a 2 year old or if he is going to be Super Ade, the hard working magician wowing us with his hold and link up play.

Either ade's shooting needed improvement from last year. |His Goal vs Chelsea not withstanding some of his attempts last year would have embarrassed Pedro Crouch

Adebayor is not actually good in the air. Unless he is totally unchallenged he aint winning the header.

Yes. But Super Ade comes out a couple of times a year, thats why his fans have no trouble in highlighting his good performances (Newcastle, Chelsea). He is a liability.

Why carry such an inconsistent unreliable player, yes lets keep his as back up for the next 8 weeks but barf him off for a better model in Jan. He has had enough chances.

You know im completely with you on this. i wasnt trying to find a reason to play him, just further highlighting the reason i dont want him to play.

The sooner we have a hungry, committed 2nd/3rd choice striker the better.

But if Ade wasn't in the squad, and AVB has mentioned before that he doesn't demand his players attendance for games they are not playing a part in... Why would it matter if he was watching his mate play somewhere else?

Especially if he wasn't even deemed worthy the bench for a league cup game.

AVB has handled this badly - from the minute he went public and said he was going to be with the development squad until he "saw fit".

Players have egos and he'd just been given compassionate leave, to say that in the press was ham fisted.

I agree that AVB hasn't handled the Ade situation well, but I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt given that he has handled the our squad's personalities very well on the whole (look at how great he was from start to finish with Bale while the little chimp was being rather disrespectful), and also given that a series of managers (Wenger, Hughes, Mancini) have all also struggled with him, all managers more experienced than ours too. Ade is quite a charming guy and easy to like off the basis of interviews etc. but we have know way of knowing what he's like behind the scenes. If AVB deems that Ade is worthy of being involved then I'll be delighted as Ade is a great option to have, but if AVB feels it's bad for the squad then ultimately we have to back and trust in the guy making the choices, because we don't really have an option (on the assumption that we, as fans, don't want to be counter productive).

It works in AVB's favour that Ade isn't a popular player really with our fans, it buys him time to make up his mind and speak as he sees fit in the meantime. There's also the fact that we have a great foroward in Soldado, a declining but still very popular Defoe and, seemingly, an emerging Harry Kane, so we're not desperate for Ade by any means, and we also have recorded a great points total so far (albeit with lesser quality football than we'd like/ are hoping for). It's not like with Ekotto, who is immensely popular, has spent many years at the club being not only dependable in large, but probably the best left back we've had in decades, and plays in a position which we've been exposed in for not having enough depth since Rose picked up his injury.

I can't help but feel that, regardless of the reasons and circumstances, Ade's time with us, and probably in the Premier League, is reaching its end.
