Adebayor's injury

I don't know how people can defend Adebayor. Sure when he wants to play, he's epic, but how rare is that? 1 in 20 games?

I know stats don't always tell a story and he's started a few games as sub, but look at this:

2011-2012
Apps: 37
Goals: 18
Assists: 12

2012-current
Apps: 20
Goals: 3
Assists: 0

Can anyone think of a game he's been good in this year? I can't.

The fact we've been playing so well with him in the squad every week, just shows how good our potential is. I for one, am very happy that Defoe is back.

Agree and although we got him for a good price you could pay two top strikers the same as what we pay him.

I don't think he's been fit all season - and I don't necessarily think that's his fault. He's had lots of niggling injuries.

But he didn't prepare well during the pre-season, if at all, and I think that's costing him any sort of form now.

I'm still a massive fan of the way the team plays with him in the side, and his holding up play is better than Defoe's (who has improved - don't get me wrong - but is still not as good as Ade in that department).

Ade looked like he came down hard on his knee, jarred it quite bad and so I don't think he had a lot of choice

Will anyone defend Adebayor. Yes I will.

For a start he had no pre season training, then got injured, then went to the ANC and so has not had a real run of games.

I haven't seen him shirking or not giving 100%. He leads the line and does his best. We all know he is actually capable of even more and on his day is world class. At the moment he is lower on confidence and probably still getting over the the ANC which seems to bring most players down a level.

Have a look at his movement and you will see why AVB is content with his role in the team - he makes space and holds the ball up pretty well. He is always looking for the ball.

The frustration is that he could do so much better and that we know he is on high wages. If it wasn't for that then I think his performances would merit average 6 or 7's for recent games.

At the end of the day he is a Spurs player and like all Spurs players, unless he disrespects the fans or team or shows a lack of care for the team then he should get our backing. Funnily enough as a confidence player (which he is like most strikers) maybe knowing the supporters appreciate him and want him to do well might even give him a boost.

As for feigning injury - most stupid thing I've read on here for a long time.

So give him some slack and maybe he will come back to last season's form.

I disagree. More chance of him scoring when on the floor as the ball may bounce off him and go on target for a change.

But according to the world renowned neurologist SIr Alex Ferguson "he could have been killed" if the ball hit him!

Call me a cynic but I don't think Ade has that much commitment for the cause.

I will start off by just qualifying that Ade, for me, is on form our best option to lead the line and think his value to us last season was undervalued by many, and Jermain Defoe is someone who's value has probably been overestimated for a long time.

But just having a look at the stats regarding the assumption that Adebayor's hold up play is excellent, tells us a few things - last season Adebayor's average passes a game was 34.3 @ 80.8% which is excellent, compared to Defoe's meagre 11.6 @ 82.5% offering - he shows for the ball more, he gets more involved in the play and hence he made 11 assists.

But when it comes to the stats for turnovers (basically poor control which loses possession), and times he was dispossessed (tackled without taking a player on) he lead the EPL stats on both counts with 3.5 & 3.2 respectively, compared to Defoe's better stats of 1.4 & 1.

Adebayor is much better at showing for the ball and being involved in the play (and naturally will lose possession more because of this), but I do think his actual holding the ball up could be better on some occasions.

He holds the ball up fine, on the rare occasion he controls it and it doesn't bounce off him. He has the touch of a rapist.

Well its obvious that he hasnt been performing up to scratch. He has been working hard in closing down the opposition so it would not be accurate to say he's lazy or not bothered. His chance at West Ham shows that he is closing down the GK looking for spills and second chances.

Does anyone have an explanation as to what the reason could be?

Clearly part of the arse plan was to try and provoke Adebayor ( his sending off at their place was after all how they won that game). He was clattered from behind, especially by Arteta, every time the ball was anywhere near him. It wan't his best game but he worked hard and kept his composure. Yesterday's win was a team effort and he played his part.

I very much his injury is not serious as he is our best CF option. Having said that is Bale now a centre forward. He is certainly playing in much more central role.

I don't think the tactics are helping him though, last year he worked the channels a lot, this year he's more central for the majority of the game, playing with his back to goal more so than not.

I think what our side needs with the way we play is a player like Defoe, but just not Defoe.

It must be tough for AVB in that his first top job he landed he had fucking Falcao to lead the line for him, he'll be unlikely to get another player like him anytime soon to lead the line.

Yeah I said this in my ratings yesterday, I'm almost certain he has instruction to stay up top and be the focal point and play between the width of the penalty boxes. It doesn't matter if they aren't involved a lot in play, they just need to come alive when the ball is in and around the penalty area.

This isn't Adebayor's game at all really.

Yeah for sure, I still think Berbatov could've been class for us but there was clearly no chance of that ever happening as long as Daniel Levy had a hole in his arse.

I thought to be honest his confidence must have been pretty low for him to attempt that dodgy square ball to Bale when he could have comfortably slotted it away by himself.

This aside, he does seem to be playing much better in the last few appearances, fingers crossed he is up for the Liverpool game and will get one against them.

Yeah thats what I thought too. But he will take heart from his performance, and maybe next time shoot instead.

So basically he got stretchered off, and in line to play Thursday. Classic time wasting, well played Ade, that was your biggest contribution for the match. Pretend to be injured.
Actually his biggest contribution came for our 1st goal. His clever run created space for Siggy to pass a great ball to Bale who finished cleverly.
He may not be that interested or he may have faked his injury, nonetheless, he does make clever run for others to get space.

Really don't think it's a coincidence that Adebayor has played a lot lately and Bale is now in the form of his life. Free Kicks or not. A lot of Bales goals Adebayor is around the ball taking off a defender or at least moving with one

But it could be he is moved up front. We will see when Defoe and Bale play together up front.

Surely if we'd started with Defoe on Sunday we would have tried to get him in behind their back four, in particular Mertesacker, who makes Daws look like Usain Bolt. With Ade, we drew them higher up the pitch. We nearly broke through on about four other occasions before we actually scored.

And he faked the injury in order to get taken off? Really? Honestly?

I'm on the fence with Ade and hopes form picks up . But one small piece of evidence would suggest the above isn't always the case .
I'm talking about the gif of Bale's second of 2 free kick goals in one game . The forwards line up and then race in as Bale's kick
comes in looking for 'spills and second chances'....all except Ade who is standing stock still , disconnected. Strange to see .

There may be all sorts of reasons for this of course , not conclusive evidence .....but odd I found.

The whole 'We're generally better with Adebayor in the team even if he's not scoring' has gone out the window a bit this season, IMO.

Defoe did more in 5 minutes than Adebayor did in the whole of the Arsenal game(Yes I'm aware of the run for the first goal, I'll praise him for that, I guess....). This is Defoe we're talking about as well, great goal scorer but can be so anonymous at times yet he made me wonder what the fuck Adebayor had been doing all that time. The Sunderland miss was one I thought he wouldn't be able to repeat but he came as close as he could without it being worse with the header straight at the West Ham keeper a few days ago.

I've always defended Adebayor in the past and never even really minded him not scoring much as he gave so much else but this really isn't the case anymore, I'm unfortunately starting to lose faith.
