From the official site - The Club is delighted to announce that agreement has been reached with Lens for the loan of French midfielder Adel Taarabt. Adel will register with the Club once we have received his International Transfer Certificate from the French Football Federation.

Also from the Lens official website - Lens' Sporting Director Francis Collado said that Taarabt will be "joining Spurs on loan with an option to buy".

An attacking midfielder who can also play as a second striker, Adel can additionally play wide on either wing. He has represented France at U-16, U-17 and U-18 level.

The 17 year-old made his first team debut with the French Ligue 1 club earlier this season.

Sporting Director Damien Comolli said: “Adel is recognised as one of the best talents in Europe for his age group and as a club we’re especially pleased that we beat several leading Premiership clubs to his signature.

“He will be a healthy addition to the squad and is a continuation of our policy of attracting the best young talent as we constantly seek to improve the quality of the team both now and for the future.”

I was under the impression he was a left winger. This makes him sound like a utility player. He's supposed to be good and is the same age as Gareth Bale so he might soon be playing in the first team.

    Sounds good!

Presumably with the view to a permanent transfer if he impresses. Can't see him near the first team! Anyone disagree with that out of interest...?

I don't know anything about this guy but I like the loan/option concept

Well the boy himself stated on the Lens website previously that he turned down a move to Chelsea and Arsenal to play for us because they wanted him in the reserves whereas we were lookin to fast track him into the 1st team. So who knows! lol!
  6. badcompany
I'd have thought that he would get a chance in the first team to make that impression for us to then go on and sign him. But anyway, just hearing the words 'winger who can play either side' made me feel warm and fuzzy inside!
  7. DCSPUR
i think he is out of contract in the summer so we would negotiate or go to a tribunal with Lens

looks quite slight in build so i'm hoping that it may be an indication to some low centre of gravity lennon style balance and control of the ball!

Just a quicky to mention that Comolli said "best young talent", as opposed to the "best young british talent"? But still looks a decent young player.

cannot believe we have got this guy, he is quick and skillful, seen him once and he reminds me off another french guy who plays for Arsenal, who also started on the wing and can play up front as well, I heard Chelsea and Arsenal were going for him, Well done Comolli, he is rated as the best young talent in europe.

I heard this loan situation is b*llocks....this is a permanent deal....we will pay them 3.5 million euros when he turns 18.
  12. whatsappnin
from what i read in another article, the reason he chose us over chelsea and arsenal was the promise of first team football.

i think we have built a good relationship with lens through the transfers of benoit and now this guy, cant see us spoiling that with a tribunal
  14. agill2000
    is he left footed...left winger?
  15. Arnoldtoo
I'm sure you read it, but there's no way Jol or Comolli would 'promise' him first team football. If he plays well then he stands more of a chance of getting first team football than he would at Chel$ki, perhaps, but no performance, no selection!

What's the official language in the changing rooms these days, French or English ??

Welcome to the club son, and I truly hope that you prove to be an excellent signing for us.

Good stuff. Anyone have any inside info on other signings?
  18. tomo
Well he sounds versatile which is a good thing. I think we will see him playing in the first team sooner than you think. Sometimes our bench does look a bit thin on the ground.
