Hasn’t Rabiot insisted that he doesn’t play as the deeper midfielder? But De Jong plays the deep midfield role, therefore, they’re not exactly the same position.

Yeah Barca have other midfielders, but maybe they’re having a complete re-shuffle?

Having said that, I’d love to have Rabiot join us, I just think it’ll be one of those ‘almost’ great signings.

It is kind of nuts to me that Rabiot is wanted this badly by Poch. Not for talent (immensely talented), but because of the headaches surrounding him. For as much as Poch talks about character, etc to want someone like Rabiot is odd. But I guess he had the same infatuation with Osvaldo.

I want Rabiot in, fwiw. Even if it goes tits up we should still be able to make a good amount of money on his sale.
Poch may back himself to get Rabiot on side and get him to buy into the team ethos. With Aurier, Lucas, Sissoko, and Lloris around he'll surely have a pretty good idea of that player's character.

Arthur was probably the best player over the two legs against us. It's still possible they are having a reshuffle, and I doubt they'd renege on a deal (knowing they can sell him in 6-12 months for a big profit), so it's probably still in their favour.

He'd fix alot of problems for us, is still just 23, we've got a good relationship with PSG, and presumably would cost relatively little

So basically relies on Barca pulling the plug if they feel they will be well stocked in midfield once, as it looks like, De Jong signs for them.

On the other hand they may just want both, as Vidal, Busquets and Rakitic have just crept into their 30s and at 23, Rabiot on a free would be a good bit of business and if it doesn't work out, just flog him for a profit so win win situation for them.

Again, fair play to the club and Poch for trying but another one where we tried but the player has another more appealing option.

I don't think Barca actually have the money in the budget to pay his wages if they bring in De Jong. The De Jong report came out yesterday said that Barca is going to have to unload at least 2 players to make Frenkie fit in the wage bill.... Malcom?!

You'd think it'd take a few things for this to happen:-

1) Barca to cool on him
2) Poch to play a blinder in the meeting
3) Levy to put together a package (signing on fee, agent fee and wages) that is competitive*
4) No one like City or Chelsea to jump in while ongoing.

You'd think PSG would do us a good deal just to spite PSG, so I wouldn't expect too big a fee.

*Barca. Hope it plays out like this though.

1) Possible
2) A Damn near certainty
3) Fucksake
4) We tried

In all seriousness, I feel like he will be difficult to get agreeable terms with and I wouldn't put that on the club, fact is he's coming from PSG and has been negotiating with Barca, maybe Poch can give him a rousing speech.

Malcom and Rabiot would be dreamland  Well under £100m too.

If only...

Looking around it seems like Chelsea and Bayern have been mentioned as interested in Rabiot too. Would be an insane coup.

PSG supposedly talking to Bayern about Renato Sanchez. Likely to beat Chelsea to Paredes too.

Yet to have any ITK, well sourced journo like Ally Gold or club source confirm that we are in for him this window. Tread lightly, could be one where we are getting ahead of ourselves again.

I do wonder if getting Rabiot in would have a knock-on effect for someone like Werner. Being that Rabiot's fee would be minimal, that may allow them to overspend on a forward like Timo.

More salt needed for the likelihood of him choosing us than the lack of ITK from our end. As others have said, Paris United were spot on with Aurier and Moura.

Okay - I stand corrected. Very hopeful, would be a cracking signing despite his mothers problematic attitude and involvement. Reluctant to get excited about any signing at the moment, its the hope that kills.

Also, ITK never just comes out and says we're making a bid on a player like ParisUnited is currently doing and there are plenty of deals we work on that we don't hear about. It's like Kovacic this summer, all summer no ITK posted a single thing in the thread yet Chelsea wrapped up the deal and Ali Z said he was the one we wanted.
