JJ has poo poo-ed this already. No chance of it happening.
If JJ is as close to the club as has been suggested then it would make a lot of sense for him to dismiss every rumour of every player that we're actually going for.

Dembele has injury problems, he barely finished matches last season. The gap between Dembele and Winks/Onomah maybe too big in the most area position of the pitch.

Strengthening this position is the no1 priority IMO.

People arguing for Winks and Onomah to fill in will be the first to complain if it doesn't work and we bomb next season.

Keep the pressure off the youngsters and let them develop in an unpressured environment.

It doesn't work like that. He tends to keep his mouth shut on players that there is obviously some interest in - Barkley for example - the rest he dismisses.

Things change though, might have not been a goer back when he dismissed it but could have become an option - same thing happened with Alderweireld and Davies.

For the price, at his age, I can't see us doing it and blocking the development of Winks and Onomah. Winks really started to show he's up to the task last year, to the point he was missed when injured late in the season. I'm hopeful that Onomah's U20 performances have shown what he can offer when played CM, plus the comments from Poch how he was going to look to use him more this year.

Ah, I thought people were talking about when he did a few weeks back. Still, things change hombre. I'm pretty sure Toby was dismissed very close to the time he signed.
That transfer made a lot of sense and the UK media were still confident it would happen. This transfer makes no sense and only the unreliable Portuguese media outlets are reporting it.

Similar to what @Sweech is saying above - I'm not saying it will happen more that there isn't "no chance" because it's been shat on by ITK.

This transfer would make a fuckload more sense than Sissoko did.

With Winks and Onomah deserving a chance in CM, I think it would send out a poor message to the Academy to bring in an older foreign player who'd inevitably be in front of them. Onomah in particular would surely have to leave, with Winks ahead of him.

Also, given we really need a striker, AM, centre back and probably a new right back, spending time and money on the lowest priority position would be plain baffling. With Wanyama, Dembele, Dier, Winks and Onomah, we're very well stocked for those 2 positions.

What other top six side would depend on Onomah in their premier league or champions league team at this stage. Sorry but we need to be looking higher than that. If he develops and shows more when he gets his chance in the domestic cups then fair enough. Winks I agree should be given game time but Onomah ain't ready...

Adrien Silva would bring a better final ball to the squad something we lack against tight defenses.

Onomah's 5th choice

I think we also need to remember that ITKs are people, too. Their life/work situations changes too, and/or their sources change. Hence not every ITK will always bring tidings from the exact same perspective as the summer before every single transfer window.

More than that, I always believe in using ones own grey cells to put together assumptions based on all the available information out there. In light of that, I believe we are looking to add to CM, because of all the various CM links throughout the summer and it is likely that the CM options was deemed the main issue in our very weak CL performance. If that's the case, I believe we would not be looking at a young kid/developing prospect, because we've already got those within the club. If that's the case, links to players such as Silva and N'Zonzi make a lot of sense, and I do not believe that they are too old to warrant a 25M + fee.

I for one say it's likely that we are aiming for a seasoned, mature, versatile CM who has a steady personality, knows the CL and would be ready to chip in come September.

IMO we'll be fine with our 4 CMs plus Onomah. There's only so many injuries you can prepare for. It's correct that the jury is still out on him but it's clear that his best position is CM and MP hasn't used him there yet. I think if/when he does a few people on here will be surprised.

Regardless, with 4 pretty good CMs ahead of him it's unlikely that too much responsibility will be placed on him. It's certainly ideal if he's in and around the squad next season especially for cup games when we want to be giving Dembele's legs a rest.

I actually think another CM, especially a high profile one, would be a bit overkill now. There are far bigger priorities which is landing ourselves a great right back and someone fast and direct in attack (eg. a better Njie/GKN/Sissoko)

He's maturing as a footballer, now would be a good time to give Josh space to blossom in my opinion.

Disagree with this, even if I am very hopeful for the future of the young CMs at club. It's not as simple. We can't always be afraid of somebody standing in the way of a kid. Some were against signing Wanyama for this very same reason. But look at Dembele? How long has he got left on this level? Look at Onomah, Winks now. How long do they have left until they are really peaking? I sense ever so slightly a void in the squad right here and now, which can be easily filled. I believe it would be to Winks' and Onomah's advantage to secure the services of a calm, experienced midfield boss.
