Until the inevitable injury/injuries. Then he becomes 4th or 3rd.

No, he'd still be 5th choice. If Kane gets injured we don't suddenly think that Janssen is our first choice striker do we? He's just the back up that's filling in. Onomah is 20 and doesn't even take up a squad place so his inclusion is a bit of a bonus for us.

Disagree with this, even if I am very hopeful for the future of the young CMs at club. It's not as simple. We can't always be afraid of somebody standing in the way of a kid. Some were against signing Wanyama for this very same reason. But look at Dembele? How long has he got left on this level? Look at Onomah, Winks now. How long do they have left until they are really peaking? I sense ever so slightly a void in the squad right here and now, which can be easily filled. I believe it would be to Winks' and Onomah's advantage to secure the services of a calm, experienced midfield boss.
We've already got calm experienced midfield bosses in Dembele and Wanyama.

Dembele is still just turning 30 and he's playing as well as ever, he's not going anywhere anytime soon. Then we have Wanyama and Dier. Of course we've also got Winks who has definitely proved he can cut it in the Prem, it's no longer a massive risk to play him and he needs time on the field to grow even better. We simply couldn't keep 5 top midfielders happy if we signed Silva for instance.

The only possible way we should bring in a high profile CM is if we suspect Dembele's injuries could catch up with him. That's obviously the club's call though as they know a lot more than we do. For now though I just don't think it's necessary until that happens, especially when money is supposedly tight and there are priorities elsewhere.

I say take a punt on a kid like Vincent Marcel or just leave things as they are for now.

Of all the players we're being linked to, this one feels most like the one that'll happen.

He's a very good player. Not sure why any one wouldn't want him tbh. Has the smarts to play in any league I would say.

Not exactly glamorous but very efficient.

According to a Sporting fan on Redcafe, credible sources in Portugal are saying Adrien is on his way to spurs for 30 mill Euros. Sporting have already signed a replacement so it's probably true.

Hope it's true. Top player. Very tidy passer and not afraid to play the ball through which is often lacking when Eriksen isn't on form. Think statistically he averages over 85% passing success rate for club and country, or somewhere around that.

I think the box to box side of CM is ok. Dembele is the undisputed first choice, but Winks is fast making himself a key cog. Onomah is probably about where Winks was this time last year, but now no longer has Carroll to compete with also. No real need to invest heavily. The DM side of midfield could probably do with a young up and coming player. Wanyama and Dier are the experienced players, need an understudy, preferably one who can also slot in at CB given how that role is usually key to the fluidity in our setup to drift between 4231 and 3421.

I've thought for some time that signing Adrien Silva only made sense if one of our senior CMs (ie one of Wanyama, Dier and Dembele) was off.
Given A&C & Rob's comments, my fear would be that Dier is off to manure.
I hope I'm wrong.

He brings leadership and experience (albeit not of the PL) to the team. We desperately need more of that.

Good passer, too.

Weird buy if true though, unless we're worried about Dembele.

Either that or he wants to play dier permanently as a back 3 - this we only could do last season when victor and dembele were both fit!

A possibilty but would this then make Dier want to leave since I think he prefers to play midfield?
You think? This is the same dier who didn't go with U21 as he wanted to train and cement a spot as CH with spurs and not RB. He probably wants to nail down a permanent spot and sees CM as the easier route to this.
