After yesterdays game...is Morgan Schneiderlin someone we need

Not sure if it's been said but I'd prefer to see us go after James McCarthy in the summer. We've been linked recently and he's exactly the kind of all action CM that could be brilliant alongside Bentaleb.

He was awesome yesterday vs Man Utd.

We definitely need someone who reads the game well and knows how to drop in to fill gaps in front of the defence. Obviously I don't see other teams as much as Spurs, but I can't believe there is another team around where it is so easy to run at the centrebacks from deep. It sometimes seems our midfield is non-existent.

Schneiderlin is not a realistic target now, will go to Arse or another CL side. McCarthy would be great, but Everton would want top dollar. I've been impressed by Song too, fee would be cheap, although wages could be a problem.

Would love to see something like this:
McCarthy
Bentelab Alli

Not to pick on you, sunnyd, but this sort of thing annoys me.

What do people expect from the scouting team? To un-earth some mysteriously unknown player that's going to come in for £7 million and then become a £40 million player overnight (without any bed-in time?)

Is there going to be a player that no other clubs know about (at our supposed level) that is going to be an absolute revelation?

Not for me.
No, but I do expect the scouting team to come up with a alternative that won't cost £25m+. We are not a club in a position to spunk that kind of cash on, let's face it, not a game changer. As MP said we have to be sensible in the market, is £25m+ on MS being sensible?

I honestly believe Dembele could do the role that Mason does, he doesn't possess the creativity and the quickness of pass to play higher up the field but nobody in the squad can retain possession like he can and whilst he can be guilty of holding on to the ball too long a transitional pass to the three in front of him should be the catalyst for our attacking.

The three in front could probably do with an upgrading but maybe that's a different thread.

Dembele remains an enigma for many. I do think he is a talent, but he rarely fulfils his potential. I think no matter what Dembele does between now and the end of the season, he is definitely not in Poch's plans for next season. shame, but reality

Dembele is possibly the most frustrating player in the world! So much ability but doesn't seem to have the drive you need to be a top drawer player. Probably why he is at Spurs...

You don't decide after one game whether you need someone or not but anyway Schneiderlin is way out of our price wage. Now that the Bale money is finished there is no way that Levy would go after him.

Dembele can't play in the mf two. He hasn't done it for the last three years, why would that change now?

He doesn't have the vision, speed of thought or passing

Dembele is a typical modern day footballer. Very physical with some strong attributes but lacks some of the simple parts of the game such as quickness of thought and the ability to pick out the right pass.

He could shield the back four quite well but we wouldn't break well with his sideways passing from deep.

If we need someone to drop in and fill the gaps in our defence then Baldini needs to find a player like this?

He could fit right into MF 3. It would be awesome. Then again, most of our CM's would.

I'd like to see Schneiderlin in a better team. Right now he is playing in a team that are absolutely flying, put him in a Spurs team playing rank most of the time but with a better team than Southampton and he may get better.

It's not only the players who think the grass is greener elsewhere, as some of us fans often think players elsewhere are better than ours when it may not necessarily be the case.

Schneiderlin reminds me very much of Carrick in his pomp. Wonderful ability to win the ball back through their reading of the game and fantastic passers of the ball both short and long. A number of times Schneiderlin switched the play or played a long accurate forward pass which opened up space.

As much as I like Mason and specifically Bentaleb I've not seen either player consistently create space by switching the play or picking out a longer ball. I think Schneiderlin will offer us plenty from a defensive stand point and help set a higher tempo of our play by picking out forward players earlier when they have room to hurt teams.

That's the problem with Dembele.

Now I was a fan but my view point on Dembele playing in midfield has change because I feel Dembele actually slows down play to much giving opp sides time to regroup and close down pass channels as you mention above. It's no wonder were scoring more goals with Mason in midfield.

Dembele playing at No.10 against top 5 teams is ok because we might need periods of rest bite.

London Evening Standard claim Tottenham are confident of signing Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin. #THFC

Spurs will reportedly offer Benjamin Stambouli or Andros Townsend in a £20M deal for Morgan Schneiderlin

Arsenal and Chelsea also have the France international on their wish-lists, but Spurs now believe he will come to White Hart Lane.

Chelsea currently have the midfielder as just one of their back-up options while they pursue big name targets like Koke and Paul Pogba, while Arsenal are having second thoughts due to the fast development of Francis Coquelin.

Replace Adebayor with defining Chadli as an attacker, swap Townsend for Schneiderlin, and all of the sudden the AM's could be both revamped and allow for Pritchard.

Really don't want to let Benji go so quickly if I'm to be honest. And I reckon Townsend would turn into quite the threat there as well.

For me a big big snag with Dembo ...is that he is so one footed . Defenders are clued up and know he really wants to go left . This kills his unpredictability as a dribbler . Shame , if he could mix it up he'd be a dangerous player (and with RM !)
