Tottenham eyeing West Brom defender Ahmed Hegazi - sources

Tottenham have joined the list of clubs tracking West Bromwich Albion defender Ahmed Hegazi, sources have told ESPN FC.

West Brom face a battle to keep hold of Hegazi this summer following their relegation from the Premier League.

Reports have suggested that Hegazi has a £2.5 million release clause in his contract, but those reports are wide of the mark.

Hegazi, who is set to feature for Egypt at next month's World Cup finals, was one of West Brom's shining lights this season despite their relegation, establishing himself as one of the league's best out-and-out defenders.

Hegazi joined West Brom from Al Ahly originally on loan in the summer of 2017, before making the move permanent five months later.

The towering central defender started all 38 Premier League games for West Brom and his impressive performances have brought him to the attention of a number of clubs.

Tottenham are planning to bolster their defensive options as doubts surround the future of Toby Alderweireld, and Hegazi has emerged on their list of possible replacements for the Belgium international.

West Ham United and Leicester City are also keeping tabs on Hegazi as they look to improve their squads for next season, with West Brom bracing themselves for offers in the defender during this month's transfer window.

Ah Toby to ManU for mega money and us linked to a 3rd rate discount CB you wouldn't gift to a relegation contender in the same hour. Here's our old Levy back in peak form.

Hegazi is actually a really solid defender. He was one of the few players who was excellent for West Brom this season.

In saying that, we should be aiming higher despite him being a good player. He'll probably go to a Leicester or Everton and end up really good for them though.

No he isn’t. He’s a big shit lump that is competent in a back 8 that sit on the edge of their six yard box. Throw my dead gran in there and she’d do a job as well.

I don't actually mind someone like this as long as they're not our Toby replacement. If Poch is keen to keep the option of a back 3 - which he should - then an extra defender is pretty essential given we only have 4 current out-and-out centre backs, and that's including Toby (who's off) and Foyth (who's a kid). Dier can fill in but if he's our 1st choice DM going forward then that's not ideal, plus I think he's a pretty shite CB anyway.

In this scenario picking up a competent CB for peanuts is a no brainer, especially ones with PL experience. Ideally they'd also be able to kick a football but if we pick up a Hegazi or Evans I trust the club to have done their due diligence on that one.

If he does have a 2.5m clause then levys eyes will be lighting up like a xmas tree as he can sell him for much more after a season. But reports suggest he doesnt so we should pass.

Got away with punching Danny Ings and clawing Salah in the face in the same game but it's still a no from me...;)
