Good luck Gilly.... hope you can use your noddle to get the better of this terrible disease like you used to get the better of opposition defenders. Keep fighting lad. ATB.

Jennings kicks, Gilzean flicks, Chivers scores, and the Park Lane roars. Arsenal never stayed long, Tottenham moving along-1971

Gilly my hero. Praying for a speedy and successful recovery.

Had the pleasure of meeting Alan at a corporate dinner at a Europa league game Vs Monaco at WHL.

All the pro's there that day were great guys but Alan really stood out. Just a top quality person who loved the game....
we waxed lyrical about Toby and how he's a proper CB....rememised about ledly, the intelligence and quality. We also chatted about wanting a CB to smash strikers around the park hahahahaha.

Get well soon mate, my thoughts are with you :)

Not sure many of you know just how devoted he is to Tottenham. I remember having a drink with him in The Plough, Cuffley. I asked him about his plans after he left Spurs - would he go back and play in Scotland. I remember so clearly - he just put down his drink and said with absolute gravity ... "Och, I could never play for another club than Tottenham". Lovely man, great player. I seem to recall he had many offers to play with other clubs but (I think) chose to end his playing days in South Africa.

Near the end of his stint in South Africa, a club in Hong Kong contemplated signing him. At that time a number of great has beens were playing in Hong Kong. The Rangers duo of Wee Willie Henderson and Dave Willoughby were there.

Sadly, Alan Gilzean has passed away. I’m hoping it’s a mistake, but Steve Perryman told Norman Giller today.

One of my dad’s absolute favourite players. RIP Alan :(

Stevie Perryman was one of the few that kept in touch with Alan during his wilderness years. I am so glad he came back to the Club and realised how much he was appreciated by us fans.

My all time Spurs Hero.

RIP Gilly

GUTTED. My Dad's favourite player and we were lucky enough to book the first Legend tour of WHL with Gilly as host. True legend and gentleman. RIP Gilly

Very sad - just before my time and certainly before I understood much about football - as I started going, he was playing along side Chivers and for a young under 10 he looked really old an never scored that often - we used to go to the reserves on alternate Saturdays and a bloke called Ray Clarke scored bucket loads as a young boy I couldn't understand why the old man played instead of him- my dad and grandad and a few of their mates would laugh knowingly in the way adults do to kids perhaps they were right

ps a bit of hero at Dundee he helped them reach the European Cup semi finals I think there is even a song about him and not Born is the King
