Alan Pardew has already made it known that he is eager to add more British players to the Newcastle dressing room this summer with Tottenham winger Andros Townsend understood to be among his targets.

Just about sums up the quality of Townsend. Good fit as well.

I thought he was one of Tim's favoured players though? The jewel of the academy. I doubt he'll want to sell him, he probably wants to see how he does next year..

first he's the next best thing, then he's barely good enough for Newcastle.

get a good manager in who can actually develop a player and then see how he goes.

You seriously think a new coach can fix something like that first touch? That's before we get to spatial awareness, shooting technique or decision making.

I don't like it but my business head says we should sell him while his residual value is high, £8,800,000 with a buy back/first refusal clause in the deal

Perhaps they need someone to keep the pigeons off the roof at St James's Park.

The next big thing stuff was mainly coming from people outside of Spurs IMO. The most common thing I can remember reading on here was why we couldn't get his England form in his couple of caps replicated at Spurs.

yes, i do. I think a player can be taught out of bad habits and into good practice. Of course its harder at 22 but its not impossible.

i just think we're too quick to write him off.

it was also coming from spurs fans. In the same way that many, indeed quite a few on this forum, have been pushing Tom Carroll as the next big thing.....calling for him to be returned and placed in our midfield. He'd probably get the same treatment as Townsend.

I somehow doubt that what Pardew "targets" is ultimately going to matter, he won't be in a job for much longer.

Poor Pards ...as if the Newcastle fans didn't hate him enough already. Guy must have a death wish.

I knew I'd see at least 10 content-free, supposedly 'humorous' posts urging Pardew to do the deed. But I can't be bothered to click 'dislike' 10 times this evening, so consider yourselves all officially clicked ;).

If you have nothing to say, there's always the 'don't speak' option.

I'll check later to see if anyone actually wants to discuss this.
