Why would it put pressure on Yanited?

If Martial refuses to sign a new deal, Mourinho doesn’t want to keep him, Juventus/others interested but won’t pay up then they’re left choosing between £40m+ from us, < £40m from others, or eventually losing him for a lot less, right?

If we bid for Plea, it may look like their highest bidder has moved on.

I’m not saying this is the case, and asking if this is somehow a possibility was the intention of my post.

If this guy is our back up to Martial then what they hell does our scouting system get paid to do? Really hope this isn’t true.

I’m wondering what happened with our interest in Malcom. Linked with Inter in recent days. Surely he’s a better bet than Plea, albeit more expensive?

Hopefully this means we are going big at CM instead. If not, Fuck my life.

Also I get a bit worried hearing about his injury history.

I really hope we don't get this guy. The amount of puns on his name will be unbearable.

As it goes his name is prounced "Playa".............which doesn't really help matters tbh.

After a bad performance from him........"Don't hate the Plea......hate the game"

Yeah don't buy any of that tbh. Only Martial can put any sort of pressure on and even then it won't be much. This all comes down to whether they would sell to us or if we have something they want, he's not a star player for them/Mourinho, and the finances aren't a big deal as far as they are concerned.

For clarification, this is a deal I have heard nothing at all about as yet, so it's only opinion on my part.

He looks like an out and out striker to me, more a backup to Kane (which we’ve still never adequately managed to do) rather than an alternative to Martial. He doesn’t even look that “raw”, his touch seems decent, he has some finesse, good technique and body shape when finishing and can get his laces behind it.

Don’t quite understand the negativity unless it’s just panic that we will only sign a relatively unknown player and nobody else. Bit early in the summer for that kind of panic though.

I agree with a lot of this. He looks like he's played mostly as a striker in the last 2 years (hence his goalscoring record has shot up) and the type of goals he's scored indicate he's got a good balance of pace, movement and aerial threat. Basically he looks like an upgrade on the broken down version of Llorente that we've got. If he's seen as the only attacking recruit for the summer then, yeah, thats massively underwhelming, but if he's one of a few incomings then I'd be quite happy with that.

The one thing I will say about him if the stories are true is that it will have come from the head scouting guy (this name escapes me) as he's meant to be an expert on the French league. So it really will be a good indicator of how good he actually is at his job because lets remember that recent incomings to the PL from France have hardly set the world alight.

I agree he looks more of a striker back up than anything else. If he comes in then we must be confident of moving Janssen and Llorente on as I can't see him coming and taking up a squad place at the prices mooted without those two going.

I guess its because when people think of a forward from the french league they think of njie or gkn.

I watched a fair bit of him a couple of years ago when i was betting on nice every week as they were always great odds and he was probably their most important player then - definitely the first name on the team sheet I'd look for before placing a bet. He's a good pacy forward that finishes well. They loved the high press then so no doubt he can also be good for that in our team.

Only doubt for me is whether he's recovered from his injuries properly - presumably the medical department will have that one covered.
