He is going to enter the final year of his contract when this season is over, unless he has given indication that he'll sign an extension they might be playing a very dangerous game here.

I reckon 50m + bonuses up to say 60m would get the deal done. Whether that is in Jan or next summer is anyone's guess though.

It’s true, they can play hardball too but we will have to see how things play out when the window opens
