I think Mawson will be a superb pick up for us. Has so much going for him. Watched him closely against Germany U21s and he was a colossus. We were under a lot of pressure all game. Seems to possess leadership qualities and is a big threat in the box which is always valuable at the top level. Also does try and get his head up on the ball (helped by being at Swansea I guess).

Might not have the buzz around him Keane and even Gibson do, but not only does he play for a more open and compatible team to us, all of the points above seem pretty spot on for a CB in my book.
Yeah Swansea conceded a shit load of goals too.

I would really like us to give our own a chance first.

I like Wimmer, but it seems Poch has given up on him, which makes wanting a decent replacement a pretty good idea.

I thought the story was, Poch wants Wimmer to stay as he feel's he is of value to the squad, but Wimmer is unsettled and wants to move in favour of more playing time.

30m for this one, 30m for King. This transfer window's prices have gone mad.

I think now more than ever it's time to bet in south america, where prices have not changed, yet

Totally agree Ossie. I'm sure Argentina itself still provides superb value in terms of prices ? With 30m I'm sure you could buy 2-3 highly regarded talents from the league.

The thought of spending 60m on Mawson and King is slightly vomit inducing, even if I am a fan of us bringing Mawson in ( on the assumption that Wimmer is leaving ).

Huge problem with the South American market is the work permits system. Anyone we sign from there needs to either have a European parent/grandparent, be a current international for a decent nation, or command a substantial amount of money - generally they'd have to be in our top 15 earners and have a transfer fee in the top 50% of all those paid in the Premier League over the last 2 windows. Otherwise the work permit gets turned down.

£30m for Mawson is mad, it will be right up there with the Sissoko transfer for a totally unwarranted price.

Are Swansea selling all their decent players ? Chelsea supposedly still interested in Llorente according to some paper or other.

Perhaps Swansea got relegated and I didn't notice. If they didn't they certainly will if they keep selling their best players.

Swansea and their organisation has been kind of a disaster lately and conceded 44 goals in their first 19 games but after Clement stepped in as manager they only conceded 25 in their remaining 19 which is not too shabby. Mawson was a very important part of that run.
