Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has not ruled out the possibility of representing England in the future. The

30-year-old has yet to be capped by Spain and will qualify to play for England in a year's time having spent four years with the north London club.

"They (Spain) have never, never called me," said Almunia.
"If other people want me, I have to study my situation and take a decision because it is good for me - I will not close myself to anything."

Almunia has been in impressive form having kept 11 clean sheets in 22 games this season, relegating Germany international Jens Lehmann to the substitutes' bench.

But his performances have yet to convince Spain manager Luis Aragones, who has a plethora of world-class goalkeepers at his disposal, including Real Madrid's Iker Casillas, Valencia's Santiago Canizares and Liverpool's Pepe Reina.

Almunia's admission could give new England manager Fabio Capello a further option to explore as he looks for a long-term solution to the goalkeeping dilemma.

"I always say I have to wait to see what is happening at that moment, or which goalkeeper England has, or which goalkeeper Spain has, look at the situation and take a decision," said the Pamplona-born keeper.

"It would be a big decision but I wouldn't care if I had two days to take it."

Almunia said he has been overwhelmed by the support of the Arsenal fans ever since he joined the club from Celta Vigo in 2004.

"If you give them a little thing I think they love you, and that's fantastic. That doesn't happen in Spain, no," he said.

"That's because in England the people are more passionate and the people here are more humble.

"If they receive something, even a little thing, they give you double. For a player that's unbelievable."

What's wrong with James - Green - Robbo - Foster.

James and Green have both had good starts to the season also and Robbo is getting his confidence back, wont be long to his back to his old self again. Personally I would'nt like to have a Non-English man represent england, It's just wrong IMO, Your thoughts on the subject...

Robbo's easily the best English goalkeeper. Easily. And he's much better than Almunia.

Anyone hear the Arse fans chanting "England's number one."?

I can imagine it now, if he did become England's number one. And the old arguement, about how they have no English in there team..

"Well, we have the england's number one now."

Yes, Arsenal fans, are THAT STUPID!!!

If he continues as he is, I don't see why he can't play for England.

If Robbo has another dip of form, then why not eh, he is certainly playing well enough.

If this happened I think my already minimal interest in the England team would disappear. And it's not because he's a scum player, although that obviously doesn't help. It's because changing countries is fucking ridiculous. It's already made a mockery of international cricket and rugby and shouldn't be allowed in football.

if this guy played for anyone other than a big 4 club we wouldn't be talking about it/ He's been good, but not so exceptional that we should start thinking about drafting him in.

Green is deserved of a chance above anyone imo.

He's not that great a goalkeeper and he's already 30. Pointless.

Didn't Cudicini say the same thing a while back? Nothing came of that either and at the time he was bloody good.

the day a half rate player who gets nationality by playing her for 4 years but has no chance of being capped by his home country then we will have hit an all time low.

No thanks...

He only gets this attention because he is a shit hot penalty stopper, other than that he's very, very average  Great reactions, poor positioning, poor command of his area.
