Only ignorant people judge players by the club the sign for rather than what they see with their own eyes. I take it Valencia and Palacios were shit because they went to Wigan then? And that Hangeland is awful isn't he because he signed for Fulham just after they'd just avoided relegation?

You're twisting it somewhat. The players you mentioned came from fairly poor leagues, and were unknown to most in the Uk. This makes them somewhat of a risk. Negredo is a good player from a good league and is fairly well known around Europe. That's why it suprises me that Hull are the supposedly the front runners, and that he might be interested in going there.

erm, Valencia came from Villareal, having also been at Recreativo on loan, and he was superb at the world cup in 2006.

Hangeland may have only come from Copenhagen, but he was pretty well known amongst anybody who watched football outside these shores (as I'd imagine most managers do) having been superb in the Champions League.

I'd say that either of these are comparable to someone who's only ever played for 2 season at Almeria and never in European or international competition at any level.

BUT, he is expensive and a risk. He might not reproduce his La Liga form in the Premier League. If he was for sale at say £8m, there would be a lot more interest in him. But Madrid are asking for about twice that, so thats why many teams are put off.

oeeh haven't thought about that, actually that does make a lot of sense. +rep

no club in the world will look at their asking price without thinking of the amount that madrid have paid themselves to get him back on that buy-back option.

they just want to make some quick cash which kind of succeeded with huntelaar but will most likely not work with negredo.

ofcourse huntelaar going to ac milan and negredo being linked with hull doesn't say much about their ability, i just found it funny after what has been said on this board about said players and how it has unfolded. :p

ps.

how many games has valencia actually played for villareal? to my knowledge he has only 2 games to his name where he came from the bench in his first year and hasn't been at the madrigal ever since. :p

oh I wasn't having a go at you, you never said that Negredo was not that good, I was having a go at the people who were saying that signing for Hull means he's not that good.

According to Marca he has a choice between Hull and Zenith, with Blackburn a distant third.

There is no way that he is going to Blackburn, as they are allegedly skint...The fans on the Blackburn msgboard are going nuts about it.

Make you wonder what would have happened if they hadn't got the huge amount of cash for Roque

You're telling me when Fulham signed Hangeland, or Wigan signed Valencia you thought what a coup.
You knew a player, who by his mid twenties had only played in Scandinavia would become an outstanding premiership player, and a player who couldn't buy a game for Villareal, would eventually be the man who would be entrusted with the task of filling Cristiano Ronaldo's boots. You really are an astute follower of football, and your encyclopedic knowledge of the world game astounds me.

Haha I gotta say I agree. Anyone that says they had that figured out beforehand is full of it. Easy to point things out after the fact though.

Where are Hull getting this money? Eek

Negredo may consider Hull since he's practically a guaranteed starter there, and after a season proving himself in the PL could earn himself a move to a top 4 club. That's a bit better than possibly ending up on the bench here if he doesn't adapt very quickly, since we have plenty of strikers who might get ahead of him.

I'm not saying I knew, I'm saying people in football knew. Hangeland I had no idea he would be this good, but Valencia, anybody who didn't know it was a good deal was asleep during the 2006 World Cup when he absolutely took apart Poland on the first day in a shock win for Ecuador. You may not have heard of him, but I had after that and people who watch football outside the bubble generally knew that he was a very good talent. I was even quite upset that we never went for him.

If "people in football" knew why did they end up where they ended up, and for such small fees? Villareal still didn't fancy him even after his WC exploits.

Because football is not as black and white as "look at him, he's a good player, he has to command a high transfer fee and go to a top club".

Like I said, I'm pretty sure Hangelands potential and talents will have been known by most good clubs, but it's also a case of supply and demand. At the time he was available, how can you be sure that top clubs would offer him first team football, whereas Fulham will have.

Villareal not fancying Valencia doesn't mean that other people didn't rate him or it wasn't obvious that he was good. Man U didn't fancy Forlan, but since he's left he's been one of Europes very best strikers every single year. We didn't fancy Kanoute (why I know not) but since he left he's also been one of the top strikers in Europe. Juventus didn't fancy Henry, and look at the Career he had after he left them.

It's not black and white. Just because a big club isn't taking on Negredo, for whatever reason, it does not mean that he is not bloody good. It's supply and demand at the end of the day. If you already have a bag of apples, and quite fancy a pear for some variation, but then walk past a display of apples which are tastier than pears, are you going to buy the pears or the apples?
