It would do Amazon a lot of good to get a focus on something, Prime isn't exactly anyone's first choice for anything with Netflix and the other big guns already established. If they pour all of their efforts into cornering the live sports streaming market that could be huge. BT Sport went in too heavy too soon, imo, and while they've improved massively over the last year or so, it's still not the finished product by a long shot. They have bizarre deals connected to other companies, like EE where you can only use BT Sport on your phone or tablet (squint-vision), i've apparently got a deal because I have them provide my broadband, but i'm limited to only channel 1 or something, i can't remember, but it's just so randomly haphazard in the way it's been distributed.

Thinking about our sponsors for the last few seasons we've been heavily tied in with networking companies, hardware firms etc. who on the surface right now might not be obvious big players but someone needs to build the hardware that will support the digital age of sports broadcasting, and with the new stadium apparently more interactive than a flesh light I wonder if Levy, the crafty bugger, hasn't been nurturing this circle of business contacts to ensure the stadium is right at the front of this - we promote their innovations, we get to be first in the queue for being digitally accessible. This could be really lucky timing for us if Amazon did decide to get involved and we'd have all the shiny new facilities in place to invite them over and practically plug straight in.

Funny you should mention about levy. When he chatted at the Nasdaq in the summer he mentioned amazon and them coming into the tv market albeit very briefly. This was before they were really mentioning them being players in the English football tv market. So he’s definitely switched on to it and obviously has been for some time.

But that's a debate for another thread.....

I love that “austerity” now means we have to watch what add ins we have on our tv packages.

When I was a kid it meant freezing your bollocks off as the wind blew through the rotten timber frame windows and going hungry. Now it’s shall we watch champions league football or game of thrones?
Rotten timber frames? You must have been rich. We couldn't even afford window frames.

Prime already has over 100 million global subscribers and it's a pretty safe bet that in the UK Prime has more subscribers than Sky Sports. This is a positive development
Are we actually thinking they’ll just add it onto prime and no extra cost?

Not imo.

Then you don't understand the business model.

Grand Tour, Premier League, Man in the High Castle, Alexa... it is all about adding Prime subscribers

I hate the layout of Prime Video... it's the main reason I don't sub to it (the other being that I very rarely order from Amazon).

This one could easily be included in Prime as it will be relatively low cost. Any more and it would have to be an add-on channel I think.

It's about growth at the moment. Sky and bt make a loss on their football but make it back on broadband sales. Amazon want to grow their customer base for prime so will probably take a hit in the short term.

Wonder how pubs will get on? How expensive is it for a pub to get amazon prime? Do amazon even have people to check if the pubs are showing the games illegally?

We’ll see
You've taken a parochial view, that football actually matters in the grand scheme of things to a company like Amazon or Facebook.

Amazon just want to scoop up more Prime subscribers, the more subscribers the more likely you'll shop with Amazon, use their Music service over Spotify, use Audible over Apple books, Amazon music over iTunes or Google Play, use AWS over Azure or GCP (this one is a bit of a stretch), use Alexa over Google Home or Apple Homekit and even use their food services over Ocado and supermarkets. By not taking the piss with pricing, they can lure you into their entire ecosystem and empty your pockets without you even knowing it.

Facebook is a little different, they may be about to get the other rights package and they'll use it to draw customers back onto the platform and serve incredibly well targeted, user specific Ads.

It’s only 2 sets of midweek games when they will stream them at the same time. We need one company to dominate the packages to keep the cost down. Don’t need three of them at it

When brexit does happen we might see the eu rule (that football has to be sold in seperate packages) scrapped.

This is becoming interesting, I signed up on Monday for the 30 day trial, principally because I now have decent satellite broadband at last.

PL matches will be a bonus.

No one should use amazon music over Spotify.

They need to seriously revamp the UI (again), it's not user friendly or intuitive.

If I want to watch something and it's on Amazon and Netflix, I always default to the latter.

I'm happy with this new development but I'm bias, I'm already a subscriber.
