Remember when everyone thought that Hull had done great business getting Abel Hernandez? I'll wait and see.

Didn't want him anyway. Never sign a player who's surname is the sound you make when you step in dogshit.

I didn't want us to sign Jeff Schlupp anyway....:shifty:

Ayew might be good for Swansea, but you have to trust the fact that no one in the top 7 seemed to bat an eyelid... for 'free'....

Is this the new definition of free? Where it equals £96k per week (apparently)?

We've been bitten by the low/no fee high wages on a long contract before (hi Ade...), so I'm not at all surprised.

Lets be fair Ade is a one off deal. The warning signs were there but he woo'd us with his great loan spell.... I think there are better players than Ayew and the fact he has gone to Swansea says a lot about how highly rated he is.

There was no transfer fee involved, nor reports of any other team (especially those well equipped to afford such a wage) being interested.

£1m saved in transfers is approx one season of £20k a week. If you paid £6m for him, that's £40k a week over a 3 year contract.

....and lets say we did pay the 90k a week and make him our highest paid player. How would our more deserving players react?

A cheap transfer can get very expensive. The only way a transfer can actually be a bargain is if the player consistently outperforms expectations on the pitch.

Confused at how £90k would be highest paid, I guess

Who is our highest paid player and what are they on?
I've completely discounted ade by the way

You've answered your own question.

To add to it, Lamela and Soldado will be pushing £90k each, no doubt about it. We signed Hugo on 60-odd thousand a week, he's now as good as club captain with a recent 5 year deal, so he'll be pushing that too.

We wouldn't keep these players long if they weren't near the going rate for top talent

I guess I wasnt considering ade as part of the squad, seen as we are trying to offload him. I was thinking of players such as bentaleb etc. If someone is coming in on 96k they need to be a proven player, otherwise some of the others who are currently negotiating contracts may get a little demanding.

Similar is said to have occurred with Holtby, who came cheap for a transfer, but had/has high wages (£60k+ I recall) for his experience.

I would expect Swansea's offer includes compensation for joining a mid-table team - he'd have probably joined arsenal for half that salary

Bit of a strange one this. Seems to be relatively highly rated by fans and maybe the press, but Marseille don't seem to have fought tooth and nail to get him to re-sign and while it seems a lot of big clubs 'looked at him', all of them passed...
