Looks good to me - maybe not the dazzling attacker we all want but together with Barkley, he'd do.

Are the people against this signing saying this because of his spell at Barca? Pretty sure he was great at Valencia. Loads of players have failed at the superclubs but do very well elsewhere.

How sure? I follow Valencia and was never over-awed by this guy. He is another over-hyped Mendes client where clubs pay through nose thinking they've got the next big thing, like sanches (good), mario (kinda crap). Outside of ronaldo can only think of Moutinho and Silva who matched the hype. That said Gomes is a decent all around footballer and a more complete midfielder than any we have. He was just never worth the money nor the quality barca needed.

He's not a poor player at all. I'm guessing you've never watched him playing for Valencia. He was excellent for them.

Hasn't happened at Barca yet for him but that doesn't render him a poor player

I have. And I've seen him playing poorly for Portugal at the Euros and being one of the worst players at the Confederations Cup this summer too.

I had him in my dream team for Euro 2016 so I watched him pretty closely in the matches he played.

Needless to say he was absolute aids and my dream team bombed miserably.

Watching his videos...style wise he seems like a Michael Carrick sort. Not fast, tricky, or dazzling. But steady with good vision and distributes the ball fairly well.

Deeper, but I preferred him more advanced personally. He was really good in the attacking third, lntelligent link up play etc

Hasn't been great recently and I'm.Nor saying I'd be confident of him being a successful in this league in our set up, but he wasn't a poor player when playing for Valencia.

I don't know how he would fair here. But he was good for a sustained period in Spain, on that basis he's not a poor player imo. Whether he would be a good fit for us, I wouldnt be too confident but again that doesn't mean he's a poor player.

agree, defo a concern along with the Mendes issue. Mendes is probably playing nice as his rep is tarnished now in France, Spain and Portugal. Only Wolves were desparate enough along with the new ownership stuff. DL would wonder if the player would be force to move in a year to get another big transfer.
