Andre Gomes has decided he wants a return to Valencia but the current offer on the table isn’t to Barcelona’s liking

Understandable if true. He might not be willing to take another big risk (joining another leauge) when he has already failed at the big stage. Often more comfortable returning to what you know.

Eh, won't be upset if we lose out while chasing better targets like Ndombele or Kovacic who seem semi-achievable.

Also speaks the language and probably has a house there. Better weather near a beach? Can't blame him at all.

I signed him on football manager, he was average then kicked up a fuss and wanted out. Chelsea paid me £8m more than I signed him for.

For this reason, we should avoid, he was using me to get to a "bigger" club.

In all seriousness, the dude was amazing at Valencia but has just not done it/had enough playing time at Barcelona, think as said going back to Valencia might be his best option.

So either:-

A) They don't have the funds

or

B) Herc would be happy for them to re-sign him

I prefer the latter...
Valencia did confirm they were in negotiations with Barcelona over Gomes but barca want to sell whereas they want to loan him.

Not too enthused about signing Gomes in the first place, if we do so when he's said he'd rather go to Valencia that would really suck, we shouldn't be playing second best to them!

Also he's a player totally devoid of any confidence, poor guy had to visit psychiatrist last season.Think a move back to Valencia is the best option for him rn.

I don't believe these are mutually exclusive. Valencia are definitely not 'healthy' financially but I will leave Herc's opinion to him.

Anyone reckon Lamela could do the same job on the left hand side of a 3 man midfield? Then we could go for Malcom as the RWF instead? Just a bit of FM type idling.

Wouldn’t at all be disappointed to miss out on this one. Would even rather have Barrios play CM.

Herc said everything was agreed with the Player and he would be our player during the knockout stages of the world cup...I really hope we have a found a better player than him and this is why the deal hasn't happened.?

Bumping this thread to remind me of something I have gleefully forgot. Cruel man... Real cruel...
